Uceris

Began taking prednisone 5 weeks ago. Started with 40mg/day but I’ve tapered down. Went as low as 5 mg last week and pain returned. Went back up to 20 mg day and it seems to be controlling it.. Anything below that doesn’t control pain.

Doc wants me to stop Pred tomorrow and begin taking 9 mg Uceris (oral). Scared of pain returning.

Seems like one should “taper into 9 mg Uceris”. Doc says “no”.

Colonoscopy Tuesday.

Anyone have experience with Uceris?

Pain is absolutely my worst symptom as well. (2nd on the list is constipation).

My gastroenterologist mentioned something about the Pred masking the problem. However, he wrote me a script for 30 days of Uceris and said he wanted to scope me “in the next month”. When I went to schedule the scope, 2 months out was his first available opening. That’s a stretch. I’ve been hurting and constipated since last October. An opening came up Tuesday so I took it.

He’s also doing a barium CT on my small bowel after the colonoscopy but on the same day. I believe this team of doctors (Vanderbilt) is really trying to figure out what is wrong with me before my local GI puts me on Stelera.

Maybe I will call Vanderbilt tomorrow to make sure it’s not too soon to do the tests. The thought of another 2 months is unacceptable to me. I’ve waited long enough.

I wouldn't want to wait 2 months either. That's too long. Good luck with the scope and barium CT. Hope you get some answers.

I was on 9 mg daily of Uceris (budesonide) for about 8 months. It helped me tremendously. Controlling urgency and frequency with my UC. I kind of begged my doc to stay on it when he told me I had to start tapering off it. He said no, been on it long enough. Since I have been off, things not so great. Sigh.
