Congratulations, Faith, on your good initial report! RE Propofol which you mentioned: after my last C-scope I felt tired for a week afterward. Gastro would never show concern over that type of complaint, but I had a gyn-onc office visit scheduled the following week and mentioned it there. My gyn-onc (who performs several major surgeries every week) immediately replied: "Propofol? No wonder you had fatigue!" RE your 64 oz. scope prep, that's already a limited amount compared to the gallon most members posting here are required to drink. (Amount should align with length of colon, when known.) Very glad that you got through that latest ordeal, brava! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Thanks Old Hat! They have to come out with a better prep. Love the Propofol! The only part of the procedure I like lol

Congrats on your excellent scope visual results. When do you get the biopsies pathology?

Do you have Pico Salax available? I know some who really like it...I've never tried it tho.

I've tried the Pico Salax. Much easier to drink, no nausea at all, no issues getting it down. Unfortunately it was not very effective for me, but I am a freak of nature so don't let my experience deter you!!

Serenity...curious what directions you followed? I read it can take up to 6 hours to work.

Oh boy let me see if I can find the directions... this was probably 10 years ago. But then, I do tend to keep things around much longer than necessary...

Hmm, I did not keep all my notes but I do still have the instructions. The instructions say to take the first sachet at 3 pm, sip it slowly over 1 hour. Take second sachet at 8:00 pm, sip it slowly over 1 hour. Drink plenty of fluids both during and in between and after. Presumably I followed the instructions but I don't have notes about when it started working or anything like that.

The only note I can find is that I was still not going clear by morning so I ended up drinking a third sachet. They ended up being able to perform the scope, but barely. I was not well cleaned out at all.

But that is just me... when I discussed this with my GI at a later appointment, she said most of her patients find the Pico Salax more effective than the Citro Mag. (I didn't do well with that one either). That is when she switched me to the Colyte.

I'm glad to hear you're in remission. The Miralax and ducolax prep made me sick as well. However, I always do well with GoLytely so it wasn't the amount of liquid for me.

Did your awful medication side effects improve?

Serenity...that makes sense. I assume timing of maybe starting it earlier in the day and a third sachet if needed. And you can't do the gallon preps why? Forgive my memory re that.

I'm quite certain that I did start the Pico Salax earlier than the instructions said, but I don't have my notes anymore. It's from nearly 10 years ago. Those were just the official instructions. And I did end up using a third sachet, and even that didn't help.

What is a gallon prep? Is Colyte a gallon prep? That is what I am doing now (for the last two scopes).

The first few times I used miralx/ducolax I got sick because I basically tried to drink it as fast as I could to get it down. Last couple times I slowed way down and sipped a glass every 15 minutes and went even slower if I started to feel wonky. Didn't vomit anymore.

Sarah -- how much liquid is GoLytely? Do you ever feel lightheaded or nauseated with it?

Prep was disgusting! Too much to drink. Takes too long to even work. Never doing that one again. Best one i had was plenvu. Disgustingly sweet but not that much to drink. Works pretty fast.
Have a virtual appointment in September. They will call when they get the results.I check the portal from time to time. Very happy with the results. Nice to hear remission for a change. Just gave myself the methotrexate injection. Guess I’ll be sticking with the remi methotrexate poison . Gained about 10 pounds. Take so many meds not sure which is the culprit

It's a gallon, but I almost always get told I can split it in two doses (night before and early morning). However, I never follow those instructions because I don't want to wake up at 5 a.m. to drink and poop more, lol. I never drink the entire gallon...usually 75% of it and I'm going clear (I poured some out in the sink when the nurse wasnt in the room when I was prepping in the hospital...ha). No, I've never been lightheaded or nauseous with it. I believe the instructions have you drink a glass of it every 10 or 15 minutes.

For some reason, that Miralax prep had me lying on the bathroom floor feeling like I might pass out. I felt really, really ill. It was scary.

I Googled Colyte and it appears to be the same as GoLytely, the one I always request. Did it work better for you?

Serenity...yeah, its a lot to drink. Unfortunately, GoLytely isn't in Canada anymore...it's not flavoured. So, Colyte it is, ugh. Pineapple is more tolerable than the mixed berry 😐
I do use a straw more to the back of my mouth (so that I don't taste it) and drink it fast. I was light-headed and shaking only with my first scope. At that time, I was severely underweight and maybe glucose level was low. I took a bit of honey and it helped.

Oh I didn't know the GoLytely was discontinued in Canada. I remember you saying that was the kind you preferred. I tried using the straw method, but I can drink it faster without a straw. Okay I will bear in mind that the mixed berry is even worse than the pineapple (which does not taste like pineapple). I was thinking of trying it to see if it was any better.

Congrats on the remission!! That's cause to celebrate!!.

On prep.... Years ago I took one where you. Mixed it with 4 or 6 ounces of water .. chugged it down and drank whatever you wanted for like 6 hours and then you did it again.... I didn't puke.... But it also didn't clean me out.

Every one I've tried had made me puke until this last time. I took the dreaded miralax/ducolax last time, started waaay early (12 hours early) sipped it and was able to not puke. This was after Id taken Milk of magnesia daily for 7 days prior... Plus I cheated.... I took a couple of Zofran during the prep.... It was a nightmare but a success.

They need to invent something better for us.
