Hair loss is it Remicade or methotrexate?

Well I’m in remission which is great. I’m finding some hair loss and thinning. Trying to figure which is the culprit. Also any remedy’s?

Poopydoop, im doing bio identical pellet therapy. Estradiol, testosterone then progesterone compounded at night. Due for next insertion. Was using compounded cream. Would it be coming from taking it or if someone was low on hormones? Need to update signature

I'm not really an expert on this, I only know that changes in hormones can cause hairloss. Especially low estrogen or elevated androgens in women. Most women will experience hair thinning as they go through the menopause and beyond.

Methotrexate causes some hair loss. (It thinned my hair by a fourth..) Then I hit menapause and that caused a lot of hair loss. I was put on Estradiol cream and that's slowed it down. For some reason my testosterone is very high and we can't get it to come down...they think that is causing hair loss too. Have they checked that on you? They didn't check mine for a long time....

No remedy here...

Hi, is it possible that you’re anemic? I had several months of significant hair loss last winter when I was anemic, and it really reduced after I was diagnosed and treated (iron infusions over several months). I thought it was related to the colitis flare or something but the hematologist told me hair loss is common with anemia. Just a thought.

Was checked for anemia. Every 4 weeks before infusion they take blood. All is good with that. Going to have levels of my hormones checked. Supposed to get next round of pellets in 4 weeks.
The hairloss is by the temples. It’s not my thyroid had that checked too.

Glad you are having that checked. My PCP is checking my levels every 12 weeks. (Every other infusion)

My PCP said that when your estrogen is too low and your testosterone is too high it can cause male pattern baldness in addition to thinning of hair.

Mine is at my temples and at the top both sides.

It seems like women somehow produce testosterone post-menopause, and I've been wondering why that is-- since it's a male hormone which they really need. Or perhaps neither gender should produce it in excess? A confusing issue to me! *** But glad you've achieved UC remission, Faithmac! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
