Dizziness turned out to be vertigo. Does Rinvoq cause vertigo?

Dizziness turned out to be vertigo. I started Rinvoq last Wednesday (45 mg) as a single dose. Ever since I have had dizziness. On Friday night, it became severer. Today, I noticed that when I lean back or tilt my head back, there is no problem. However, when I sit upright or stand, I feel dizzy and about to faint. I don’t have any inner ear problems. Also, I think there is a problem with my hearing which I’ve never had before and my concentration is affected. I feel I have a headache as well. I’m really devastated. I can’t imagine that I might need to discontinue this med. I already failed Remicade after 7 years and Stelara after 7 months in less than a year. Did anyone experience vertigo?

Did the dr diagnose you with vertigo? I know you were waiting to hear from your dr.

Check on rinvog's website for potential side effects, I could not find this listed, perhaps I overlooked it.

I wonder if you perhaps something else going on & this is a coincidence?

I have a friend who is having issues with vertigo right now. She’s been to a neurologist and is now doing some balance and PT for the vertigo which she says is helping a lot.

Years ago I had an inner ear infection. My only symptom was extreme vertigo. I didn’t go to the dr because it was so bad I couldn’t stand up. But it went away in a day or so — but then I developed tinnitus.

Dizziness can also be caused by dehydration so wondering if the rinvoq could be making you dehydrated without you realizing it?

I called Abbvie company and they mentioned that vertigo is not a known side effect of Rinvoq. She recommended I should see my GI. He is the one who can decide what is wrong with me.

Ask your gi to refer you to an ENT for this issue, tinnitus is not within a gi's realm to diagnose or treat.

Saw my GI and he suggested I should take Rinvoq before bedtime as this might decrease the sense of vertigo. He also prescribed Stugeron for dizziness. As you mentioned, he though first to refer me to an ENT doctor but when I told him that I skippered yesterday’s dose and so didn’t have any vertigo, he suggested the above mentioned tips. He said given that we don’t have enough data about the side effects of the med, we should use trial and error and he warned me to either skip any doses or not to take 3 pills per day (45 mg) and that this should last for 3 months. He even upped my Entocort dose to 9 mg. Hope taking Rinvoq before bedtime would ease the vertigo on the following day.

That’s all you need Minnie! I hope it clears up. Any fistula relief? Likely too early to tell if Rinvoq is helping.

Thank you, UB Tough. Well, yes, it’s too early to think of a relief for the fistula. Hope this med kicks in. I kept hoping that Stelara would but it never did.

I've been dealing with an abcess/fistula since last weeksad First in years. Too soon to say if Stelara is failing as it may be an anomaly like I had in 2019. Throwing everything at it. GI put me on Keflex, plus I'm using high dose of turmeric and turmeric suppositories. Awaiting MRI.
Funny thing - I was saying just last month, that the longer my remission lasts the more anxious I was becoming that it would fail....and here I am.
As I was also booking my first real vacation (going in less than 2 weeks) I was suddenly worried about my crohns ....and here I am. Couldn't travel and fulfill dreams while in remission during the pandemic and now that I''ve got enough tools to hopefully prevent covid (vaccines, mask, enovid) I've got an abscess. I may cancel. Hopefully I can stop it in time though.

My next injection is mid- sept - I'll ask my doc to check for antibodies. but as I said, this could be just a blip like I had in 2019 and things settled. I hate the thought of surgery again.....

UB Tough, so sorry for all these mishaps. I know how it feels to be anxious all the time and waiting for unpleasant things to happen. Unfortunately, this is part and parcel of our disease and we have to live up with it.
When I look back at my lab tests in early June, I feel that Stelara worked then: trough level was 9, there were no antibodies and my CBC results, especially my WBC was 8.9. Suddenly, in the third week of June, I started to go downhill. I developed a perianal abscess and had to take 4 rounds of antibiotics. The MRI after showed a new perianal fistula. My lab work also showed iron deficiency and had to take iron infusions, my neutrophil’s count was skyrocketing and my lymphocytes’ count was very low. There was some kind of an activity. My TI pain got exacerbated and it was only then that my GI decided to switch me to Rinvoq.
I think that stress is the culprit. I had during June a lot of work to do and I think I overworked myself. So, I decided not to take this risk again while trying Rinvoq and I will take some time off. I’m still struggling with TI and proctitis pain but hope Rinvoq would kick in some time soon.

Minnie, I dont know if this will help but I have had vestibular migraines for ten years so its basically inner ear migraines but I get dizziness, positional change wavering/tilting, nausea and horrible tinnitis. I see a neurologist at the balance clinic in town and he has me on a strict supplement plan that has helped 95% of my symptoms. I know yours is med induced and we dont exactly know the cause of mine but I take these 3 supplements daily- 200 mg Coq10, 100-200 mg B2, and 400 mg Magnesium glycinate. He tells all his patients with ear problems to take these and it has helped a ton. I was constantly walking into walls and tables and covered in bruises all of the time! It was really bad for many years. It started while I was in the hospital for C diff and was given vancomycin for 6 months. They never went away after that hospital stay so I think mine was vanco induced. I get every rare side effect of any med I take!

Thank you, Joanna. I can’t still figure out how to deal with the new med. Dizziness has decreased as I’m now not taking the 3 pills as one single dose and divided them instead among two doses. I know very well that it was Stugeron that reduced the dizziness. I don’t know until when am I going to be taking Stugeron and whether it’s a transitional phase then I would withdraw it. I’m still experimenting with Rinvoq.

When I have vertigo, it's because I'm dehydrated.

Different med... unsure if this will help-

I was having issues with dizziness also. My supplements were changed to a larger dose of cQ10. I now take 3 200 mg of cQ10 spaced out every 8 hours, a b multivitamin and zinc. It's helped a lot.
