New York City marathon -stoma

NYC marathon officials will not let woman run who has a stoma and needs a kind of large backpack for stoma supplies and water etc.
Interesting??

I am wondering if it is the backpack issue, after what happened in Boston.

Yes I think fear of terrorism has something to do with it??

This is ridiculous!
Security fears are not valid excuses for this discrimination.
They can simply search the backpack or put it through x-ray equipment.
This is like saying airline passengers are not allowed carry-on bags due to “security” issues.
A load of b*****it.
Just need alot of advocacy and lobbying and Iam sure arrangements can very easily be made to accomodate a person with a stoma.
This is the problem with our disease btw, it is hidden and yet it wreaks havoc on us. But we cannot adequately explain it to the layperson without getting into the nitty gritty of blood and gore and potentially, or rather certainly, embarrassing ourselves and putting ourselves up for ridicule.
We need to somehow get past that, especially with rates of IBD going up all over the world.
