Hello....I'm back, I'm flaring...the worst ever, and may want to try Inflectra infusions.

I went on vacation...couldn't stay on a proper UC diet, and increasingly became sicker. I started Mezavant...2 weeks ago at : 4.8 gr. Daily in the am. ( changed from generic 5ASA after 20 yrs ).

My symptoms are: yellow mushy mucus type urgent bms..2-7 times daily with urgency and stomach pain.
I have left my concerns with my GI office and am waiting for them to get back to me.

Should I give Mezavant longer to see if it will work?

My GI is not happy with my Calprotectin levels...still high over 1100.
Questions about Inflectra: For those of you with experience...did you stay on other anti-inflammatory medications as well? How long were you on the infusions? And what symptoms did you experience if any?

I am so thankful for this forum and all of you who suffer with is disease willing to share experiences and help support everyone.

When I was on Remicade the only other drug I was on was Imuran to help prevent antibodies from developing. It's a toss up with each dr, some stick to Inflectra only.

I see in your prior posts back in May your dr was recommending a biologic & you didn't think you needed one. I suspect you have the usual new to a biologic fear, this is not unusual. If a person is flaring food will aggravate some of the symptoms but it will not cause a flare. If I eat things I normally don't eat, I end up with pain & diarrhea, once I quit the food things go back to normal. I've been in situations in the past & my dr reminds me of this.

You can continue with your current meds & take a wait & see approach. Take care.

Thanks Susie, yes I'm scared of biological and pred. Of which I've managed to avoid. And the last couple days have been a bit better. I do need to be more patient.

I’m on Inflectra. I’ve been on it for 2 years now. I still take mesalamine daily.
As far as side effects I think I’ve only had fatigue right after the infusion.
I was terrified of getting Inflectra when I first started but it’s the best thing I ever did. I wish I had done it sooner.
