Hi. Ok. So for a while I was having trouble with soupy mix on my morning movements. Not on the toilet paper. But I’m thinking that soupy heavy liquid on top of my movements was mucus.
So. I really watched my sugar and my dairy late at night before bed, and so that seems to have gone fixed the issue.
I do still see what I would call cloudy water on top of my movement, at times, but it’s nowhere near as thick as the soupy water and much less prevalent. I don’t see that every movement. The first movement in the morning has been small stools with clear water on top. Then I will have a movement later in the morning and it will be cloudy water on top.
Now, I’ve moved into a new phase. And I can’t figure out what is causing it.
Between 6 pm and 9 pm I am especially farty. I don’t feel especially bloated. But it seems like I’m constantly having to fart every 15 or 20 minutes or so. And they smell pretty bad. No churning stomach. No cramps. Just farty.
If my wife is home with me I’m having to keep getting up,and going to the bathroom, turn the fan on and let it roll. lol.
Last night I went with her to some friends to play cards and throughout the card games I’m sitting there feeling like I have to fart every 20 minutes. I hold it in of course. No time to walk to the bathroom as I don’t want to risk the possible slip out on the way. So. I sit there. Holding it in for about
20 seconds or so. Not horrible pain or anything to hold it in. Then that urge. It goes away. Thank God.
I’m trying to figure out what part of my diet is causing this. I usually have a low sugar high protein quest bar for lunch. Maybe that’s it?
Maybe it’s a supplement I am taking in the mornings?

Well. That was quick.
I think I figured it out.
Yesterday I did not have my usual Quest brand high protein bar at lunch and things were much better last night.

I was kinda thinking that could be it. Some of the stuff they put in "high protein" foods do cause gas.

Definitely the quest bar. They don't seem a good option for a food source.
What do you eat during the day in general?

I just want to say that the subject title of this thread is golden: thank you for a good chuckle.
I hope you find convenient and healthy alternatives to the Quest bar! I also need protein midday, but I've found I just have to eat whole foods (greek yogurt, though I know some can't do dairy; soups with chicken in them; other leftovers). I know this can be hard depending on work schedules!
Wishing you well!

I also had a giggle at the thread title.
I tend to consider protein bars and shakes as not real food...
Hope you can stay fart free for many evenings to come!

Rusty,
For those snacks during the day... I used to take chicken and carrots. Grill it or air fry it, cut it in chunks and toss it in it's own container.
I still do that to this day. You have to pack it in a cooler though...
Or I'd have a liquid protein shake. The Walmart chocolate original doesn't cause me as much gas and it tastes better than some. They also have a high protein low sugar one... But I couldn't do that one.
Other snacks were fruit and homemade jerky. (I don't like apples or bananas but I could eat them and they didn't cause too many issues for me.)
Glad you discovered the culprit!

Rusty check the ingredients on your quest bar. Inulin is a common additive in a lot of these fiber and protein bars and which is good for most people I guess. But it (inulin) gives me gas really bad. Or it did — I’ve stayed away from it for years. I found out because my dr told me that Benefiber can cause gas and inulin is it’s fiber element.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thankful for this forum and for those who post.
I was diagnosed with UC in 2016. This forum has helped me get through many rough times.
The doctors don’t always tell you everything. And we don’t have one of them living with us for constant questions.

Rusty,
Merry Christmas 🎄!
It's a shame that there's not a manual for us all.
This place has helped us all survive. I am so grateful to everyone on here that posts.
