Today I had a genicular knee nerve block to see if I was a candidate for a genicular knee ablation. It went well. Most of the severe pain was gone. I could stand and walk without a walker on my own.. it was a wonderful feeling... Ablation here I come....
The anesthesiologist was younger. He made a cocktail of things to put me out for 10 minutes... (Because I've had issues in the past) He said something that made me think of us..... He said he's seen a rise in the nerve blocks/knee ablations --but what's surprised him was the percentage of individuals that have IBD. Rheumatologist in this area seem to be recommending this instead of TKR because of our complications with longer surgery. He said he's had one guy that's been doing this since 2015 every year or two.... Depending on his pain levels.
He also said there's another new operation (genicular vein embolization,)where they go in... After your knee nerve ablation, and look for "extra small veins" that have developed in the knee and seal those off--and that helps lessen the pain and swelling even more.
But it made me wonder if anyone else has heard of this? And how many of us have joint issues also.
