Hi OH and everyone!
I am happily flunking retirement, with an ongoing p/t music-making gig and a few other p/t jobs. In my spare time I have become a maniac knitter, lol.
I was on low-dose, oral maintenance chemo for a year.... but a nummber of months ago I started to experience intermittent pains in the pelvic area. And then vaginal "spotting", even light bleeding. I saw a GYN, an oncologist GYN, had several pelvic exams .... nothing showed. CT scans continued every 3 months.... nothing was different. Finally my scan at beginning of February showed something: enlarged (because of cancer progression) ovary, which was the culprit.
So, I am back on full chemo, taking hours every 2 weeks. But one of the drugs is a new one, matched to markers in my disease, so I'm hopeful. The bleeding stopped immediately after the first treatment, and the pains are much less frequent and less severe. The next CT scan will show if it's working; I'm hopeful (although the chemo is making me cranky.).
And apparently if it doesn't work, there are other drugs. The goal would be to stop the progression, and/or even shrink the cancer, get me to a stable point, and go back on a low-dose maintenance chemo.
I feel like a cautionary tale for those ignoring the occasional dysplasia cell!
We hardly had any snow this winter in southern Maine! I'm sorry about
that. But now I'm looking forward to the gardening and kayaking season!
