UK travel questions

Hi, I have a few questions for the UK members among us please. I’ll be travelling to the UK and wanted to know if the incontinence pads I wear daily (Poise Incontinence Pads for Women, Maximum Absorbency, Long) are available, and if not, what would be a similar brand? Am I correct in assuming I can easily find pads in any drugstore? I'll be in large towns during my visit. (The pads made for urinary incontinence which I don’t have but they are my security blanket and have saved me very often in the last few years).

Also, if there’s anything to know re train toilets I’d be interested to know. Sometimes the smallest things can be different in different countries!

I’ve done several road trips with UC but air / train travel requires different considerations, and I’m hoping apply the girl guide 'be prepared' motto to make the experience as trouble free as possible, without adding tons of extra luggage. (I do always carry an emergency cleanup kit with me).

Any other travel with UC tips welcome. With luck, maybe I’ll go into remission soon instead of always teetering on the edge . Thanks!

Hi I'm from the UK but not currently living there, yes we have incontinence pads, they should be in any drug store. Most railway stations and airports will have a Boots store where you can buy these things.

Train toilets..tips... hmmm.... I haven't been on a train in the UK in years but firstly the service is lousy; they are over crowded and always being cancelled or running late...apart from that, last time i lived there some of the train toilets had buttons for opening/closing/locking the door, don't do what I did and press the button to open the door when you meant to lock it, i was sitting on the toilet and had 5 people peering at me...

Good luck on your trip to UK, Midge. I think TENA incontinence products are sold there, if so they would be more reliable than Poise. I actually discussed the state of U.S. supplies with my gyn a few months back, as I notice they all seem to advertise their "sensitive-skin" lately, which in reality is just a thin, flimsy plastic prone to leakage. Being older now, I remember that the incontinence supplies available during my early yrs following UC DX were much more protective than those presently sold in U.S. chain drugstores! Besides, the gyns and uro-gyns say that they should not contain deodorant chemicals! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

I don’t know if we have the brand you mentioned but I have used Tena pads for incontinence before.

Train toilets is a really difficult one to answer specifically because it would depend on which ones you’re using (there are different train operators for different parts of the country) and I’m not familiar with all of them. Most trains have multiple toilets, particularly if it’s a longer journey.
