Over the years I have shredded my joints with heavy competitive weight lifting and in later years by hitting thousands of golf balls. I agree with you that glucosamine/chondroitin helps to relieve pain. For me I will also add undenatured type II Ccllagen and fish oil to keep my joints greased.
My main caveat for me is finding supplements that do not contain excipients that shred my gut such as maltodextrin. And I need to find glucosamine that is derived from corn rather than crustaceans because I am allergic to shellfish.
I would hate it if I was allergic to shell fish -- I LOVE crabs! Sitting with a bunch of friends drinking beer and picking crabs are good times. hmm ... been a while since I did that. Will have to remedy that soon ;)
Where do you get the Collagen? May have to check that out.
