Remicade, Rinvoq, or Entyvio

Hi all,
Been awhile since I posted. Welp, long time no talk and I have a question. After my latest scope, it revealed I still have a ton of inflammation and Humira no longer is working.

I spoke to my GI and he mentioned the holy trinity of Remicade, Rinvoq, or entyvio as next steps. I have read up on all 3 and am leaning towards Entyvio, The cardiovascular side effects of rinvoq turned me off especially knowing my family's history of heart problems. Remicade with methotrexate was appealing, but having another pill has me turning into a baby.

Currently, I am on 5mg pred, 4 tabs of mesalamine, dicyclomine and 2 tabs of Metformin (To bring down my blood sugar from prednisone usage).

Remicade was okay while I was on it but I had to take it with 6mp or imuran. I couldn’t take it alone. The infusions were long but not horrible. My nurse was nice.
Never tried Entyvio but my GI isn’t a fan. He says for his C diff patients, he doesn’t use it at all and I am a C diff patient. He said it ups your chances of that infection based on his experience using it in his practice. Rinvoq is okay but the side effect profile is just insane. I have gotten like every one. Never had that on the other drugs. I will say it does help with joint pain since it was originally made for arthritis patients. It works a lot slower than Remicade since it’s a pill. Took me two months to see any changes while Remicade was overnight. I am currently on 30 mg of Rinvoq but have to see a heart doctor to get a CAC test done because my bloodwork is so bad on it. So I would not recommend this at all if you have heart problems ( I never did but my relatives have). None of these drugs are my top pick. If I had to do it again, I would pick Stelara after my remission on Simponi came to an end.

I'm really liking Entyvio, and I'm at the two year mark now. It took a little while to work, but I don't have any discernible side effects, blood work is consistently good, etc.

It doesn't help with me extra-intestinal symptoms, but I'll live with those and take the UC remission for as long as it lasts.

Hi Turtle.... I was on Remicade for years and it kept my UC managable. After 20 years I built up antibodies to it. Tried Entyvio, Humira, with no luck. Rinvoq has worked for me amazingly well. Since beginning it, I've had NO symptoms at all. I read all of the side effects and felt most anything was worth trying. I have afib so was required to get approval from my heart doc. as well as gastro. Then had to wait for insurance to approve it. Nobody can tell you what is best for you. For me, Remicade was good, but Rinvoq has been like a miracle drug; my only noticeable side effect has been a little acne. Good luck to whatever you decide. It's not an easy journey...
