Thinking of changing meds

Sorry to read that you have a new dilemma. I can understand your reluctance to switch meds that helped you achieve remission!!!! Skin problems do tend to bug UCers, too. *** I'm also fair-skinned but didn't notice any unusual lesions during my 1st 30 yrs post-UC DX. Then I started getting brown spots on an upper thigh that thickened so I had a dermatologist consult, which resulted in a seborrheic keratosis DX. The dermatologists + my IBD gastro haven't been alarmed by it, but it broke out on my neck in recent years so I wish there was at least a topical available to quickly heal the unsightly spots. At my last derma visit in January I got advised against using calamine lotion or Acnomel OTCs in efforts to shrink/dry them up. In my case aging probably contributes to this problem because my skin is generally drying out now and needs moisturizing lotion. *** Hopefully your gastroenterologist will help you to SAFELY resolve the Qs your dermatologist raises at your upcoming visit with him. Gotya RE direct cause/effect of Imuran. The dermas don't have evidence of seborrheic keratosis turning malignant so they don't express worry over it, but the lesions are ugly. They can slowly scale down to a shiny pink spot, but then may build up waxy and brown again. Pre-pandemic I had attended a local IBD support group meeting where a young female patient complained about having scars from pyoderma gangrenosa, considered a serious complication of UC. She lifted the hem of her jeans to show us a dark brown flat spot on one ankle that looked very tame, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. It didn't look ugly or exceptional to any of us, having healed thanks to effective UC biologic med. So we can experience heterogeneity in skin conditions as well as in many other aspects of UC: puzzling! / Old Hat

That is worrying, Mom. I know it's hard to change meds when you are feeling good and in remission, but it sounds like the skin cancer risk is pretty high for you on Imuran. Entyvio is considered the safest of the biologics since it's not fully systemic like the others. I don't know much about the newer meds. Let us know what your doc says.
