Hi,

 was wondering if there's any specific time that's better to take probiotic's, like morning, or evening, on a full stomach or empty? it just says take one capsule daily on package. Thanks, nikki

I take mine in the evening...I've usually had something to eat, but I've taken mine on an empty stomach before and there was no difference...what does it say on your bottle?

okay what are probiotics? My doctor has mentioned it in passing and i hear a lot of you talk about it.

The term "probiotics" refers to dietary supplements or foods that contain beneficial, or "good," bacteria normally found in your body. Although you don't need probiotics to be healthy, these microorganisms may assist with digestion or help protect against some harmful bacteria.

There is growing public and scientific interest in probiotics. Researchers are studying whether probiotics taken as foods or supplements can help treat or prevent illness, such as:

Vaginal yeast infections
Diarrhea following treatment with certain antibiotics
In addition, recent research suggests a number of new potential uses for probiotics. One study in Sweden found that a group of employees who were given probiotics missed less work due to illness than did employees who were not given probiotics. Other studies have found probiotics to be helpful in managing the signs and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)...as well as IBD.


Listen to your doc, take a good quality one, one that doesn't contain a bunch of un-necessary stuff like aspertame, sugar, additives, food coloring, ect. Primadophilus Reuteri made by natures way is an excellent one that I use and highly recommend.

Hey pb4

 it just says take one caplet daily is all, no time or anything, nor does it say with or without food. Was just wondering it there was a better time to take it where it would be the most beneficial. Thanks, nikki

I take the Primadophilus Reuteri also and take it late at night (11-11:30 p.m.) only because it's the "only" time I could squeeze in another darn pill!!!! I feel like I take pills all the time...........because I do!!! Off topic, I'm considering starting my 18 yr. old son on them. He has complained of a "funny tummy" off/on for as long as I can remember! He has always had a "sensitive" stomach when it comes to eating. We ran every test imaginable a few years back and everything came back negative. He is NEVER hungry - the first teenage boy I've met who says that! And small/slight build for his age. We'll see. What do you think, pb4?

just started 6-MP this week (50 mg. daily)
Rowasa enema nightly, Probiotics (Primadophilus Reuteri)
dx w/Type 2 Diabetes Nov. 2002
Metformin 500 mg. x 2 daily,Caduet 5/10 mg. daily, Micardis 80 mg. daily, multivitamin + calcium daily and one baby aspirin, CinndromeX (4 daily)

I take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening.  Probiotics have made all the difference for me.  Those little bacteria babies are my new best friends.

The reason I take mine in the evening is only because that's what time it was when I got home with them, I like to take things at the same time of day to ensure the 24hr thing in the system...it has guaranteed intestinal release, that's the other reason why I like the primadophilus reuteri.

Only one/day is needed, it has guaranteed intestinal release, I get it from a health food store, they keep it in their fridge, GNC around me doesn't sell that particular one...it must be kept cold, that's the ONLY downfall...but it's very affordable, in Canada I pay 28.00 for 90 caps and at only one/day means it lasts me 3 months...They have it in powder formula as well, that's what I started with then for convience switched to the caps.

Jwogie - I buy mine at a store here called Wild Oats. They have a small fridge with lots of different probiotics in it. I pay $8.99 for 30 capsules and also only take one a day.
Pb4 - I'm going to have my teenager start tonight - did you see my other post above?

Hi Stacey :)

It certainly wouldn't hurt for him to take probiotics, they're good for anyone even if they don't have bacterial over-growth, which it's hard to know for sure anyways...so it's probably a good idea, it won't hurt him any.

My bottle says to "take between meals." I take that to mean take on an empty stomach. I don't always do this though. I always take them before bed just because it's easy for me to remember and I have to keep them refridgerated as well.
