Is a CURE just around the corner?

Hi all....

I just wanted to share, with you all, a little meeting I just had with a very nice 80 year old gentlman who has had colitis for 45 years.  After having colitis for the first 15 years he went into a very major flare 30 years ago.  His doctor was out of town and the oncall doctor did not read his chart and put him on a Sulpha drug.  He was allergic to Sulpha drugs.  His doctor just happend to catch him as he lay in the hospital, literally at deaths door, and gave him an emergency Illiostomy.  His doctor told him later that he was within 3 hours of death.  He is doing very well now and is a great guy.  It just so happens thats this man is the Founding President of THE UNITED OSTOMY FOUNDATION VICTORIA CHAPTER and is still active.  He travels to all the seminars in the States and across Canada.  They also send over Ostomy products to third world countries.  So needless to say, he knows quite a bit about IBD and hears alot of inside information at all these seminars and meetings.

According to him there is a new drug that has just come from China and is awaiting FDA approval in the States that (in their words) "CURES" both Crohns and Colitis.  His source would not reveal the name of the drug as of yet but it apparently is suppose to be coming out in the States very soon and then coming up to Canada soon after.  Now this is just hear say, but is coming from quite reliable sources.  That would be unbelievable.

Another thing that he was saying is in regards to Prednisone.  I also confirmed this with my Naturalpath and a doctor, and am no sure why I havent heard this from my doctor.  If you have to take Pred. take it rectally.  Im not sure if they actually make a Pred. supository, but I talked with a pharmasist and they can make them up no problem, in whatever does you need.  My friend made his own by crushing the pills and making a Cocao Butter supository and sprinkling the Pred. in it before it hardened.  Now thats inginuity at its best.  When he took these there were not different doses back then and when he was suppose to take them orally it was 10 pills, when he switched to rectally he only needed to crush 1 pill (by his doctors advice)  Thats 9 less he had to take.  By taking them rectally he had NO side effects, less meds needed, and it is less invasive to your other organs.

I just felt that I needed to put this information up because it was new to me.  It gave me a little more hope and made me feel a little easier about taking Pred. if it ends up I have to.

If anyone finds out any information regarding this new medication, please keep us posted.

Like I said....this is just what he found out at one of his Ostomy seminars in the states about 6 months ago and it was in clinical trial stage or whatever its called for FDA approval.  It actually isnt that strang that they wouldnt give out the name if it was not approved yet because I think that would be some form of insider trading or something to reveal a new drug to outsiders before it is on the market.  Anyways, just telling you what I am finding out.  I too dont want to fill myself full of false hope, but false hope (i think) is better than no hope.

I hope there is a cure very soon especially for all the young people who have this d.d. So I hope your friend is right in what he heard keep us posted.thank you

That link just sounded like another drug, not a cure. If a cure were right around the corner, I'm sure there would be lots of media attention surrounding it. If it was something already in clinical trials, it wouldn't be kept a secret. Not trying to take your hope away, though...hope is good.

the only thing coming from china in late stage trials is the link posted above. This drug is just andrographis, an herb you can get today at any vitamin shop.

Not sure where you read that. I read another article saying they looked at hundreds of herbs and took the best and concentrated the most efficent etc. into western medicine style.

Let's talk treatments and not cures. Since scientists haven't even settled on a cause of UC I seriously doubt there is a cure.

I doubt very much that a cure is just around the corner (less than 3 or 4 years), especially out of China. There are a lot of bad products coming from China lately. Even if they found a cure it doesn’t mean it would work for everyone.

There's a drug in trials right now for MS called Revimmune, which is basically a very powerful immunosuppressant. It works like a stem cell transplant by killing your immune system to allow a new one to grow back within a couple of weeks.

The company claims it has cured many autoimmune diseases and they've acquired the rights to use it for pretty much every autoimmune condition. I know Crohn's is one of the diseases but am not sure whether they will test it on UC patients since it's a risky treatment and UC can technically be cured by surgery (even though it's not really a cure).

Stem Cell transplants do cure most people with autoimmune conditions (allogenic are more effective than autologous), or at least put them into remission for several years. So this could cure UC in theory.

That's actually a nice link. Interesting stuff.

If the doctors tell us they dont know the cause of UC then how are they gonna cure the thing? If indeed UC is related to genes then wldnt this involve gene therapy....and wouldnt there be a difference for ppl who have the genetic marker but for which the disease isnt activated and those whose gene is activated....presumbly such a cure would come first for the former.

And wouldn't any such breakthrough drug require 7-10 years clinical trials before being available for public use?

The people who find cures for their UC (and i mean cures and not remission) are those who look to themselves for the cure, who supplement themselves via herbs and allow their mind and body to do the rest. I'm a bit tired of every website and GI claiming that UC is not related to food, stress etc when they can't tell you what the cause is.

I'm not trying to find a cure for UC - I'm trying to find a cure for MY UC. What we see in UC is inflammation. I think we have a lot going on in our bodies and minds before the inflammation arises. The cause and cure lies somewhere or someplace before the inflammation takes place. Medical science seems to only want to deal with the inflammatory response.
