Anyone have a GI doctor in Minnesota that they would recommend? I have looked at the CCFA list but I would like a first hand recommendation. Some of the MD that I have gone to are listed on the CCFA and I personally would not recommend them.

The only thing I could recommend is docs at Mayo or the U of M. Sorry - no specific names.

How far away are you from La Crosse, WI?

I am about
4 hours. My son may be attending Winona State next fall and LaCrosse is right across the border. Have a great GI that I should go to?

That's a pretty far distance... but yes, there is a great GI that I recommend there! I attended school at UW La Crosse and found an awesome GI at Gunderson Lutheran... Dr. Scott Rathgaber. I can't praise him enough.
I was admitted to the hospital (Gunderson) the week before Memorial Day of '06 because of a bad flare up. I didn't have one single doctor (there were many) because of the holiday and I believe many of them were on call. I chose to follow up with Dr. Rathgaber because when he came into my hospital room I told him I had a list of questions to ask. He pulled a chair up next to my bed and answered every single one of them clearly and without making me feel dumb or rushed.
Also, there have been times when I have sat in his office for half an hour just asking him questions or discussing different options or treatments with him. Never once have I felt rushed. Also, if I ever felt like I needed to get in to see him, I never waited more than 2 days for him to get me in. He is very accomodating.
So, it would be a long drive... but if your son is at Winona it might make a good excuse to visit! Good luck with whatever you choose!!

Thank you for the recommendation. I actually got "goosebumps" thinking that there is really a GI doctor that will take the time to answer all my questions and options for treatments! I am definitely going to check into what my insurance will cover by going out of state.

Hey I go to Winona State! I was told that I should find a GI down here but was also told that would be EXTREMELY hard to. They say that most GIs work in the cities. It sounds like it would be best if you went to la crosse.

sbauer- how do you like Winona State? I went to Winona State for one year (back in 1984-85) but then transferred to Mankato State to be closer to my finance. When we took my son to visit the campus 2 weeks ago he really liked it but wants to go back for another tour. He plans on majoring in Biology and we were unable to see the Biology labs the day that we were there.

I LOVE IT! I'm a cytotechnology major, so its pretty close to bio. If you do come back for a tour definitely check out the Science Lab Center. Its like 3 floors of just labs! It is a really nice, clean campus for sure.

hello!
I live in a suburb of Minneapolis and I have gone to Dr. Tombers at Minnesota GI Clinics for the last 12 years. He is a great doctor, but I actually switched to another Dr. within that system. Dr. McCabe to be a little closer to my home. He is also great and I would totally recommend either one of them.
