I drink almost every day in moderation. It's nice to have a couple of beers or a couple glasses of wine when I get home from work to wind down.
Anyway, it's had no effect on my UC. I will say, though, that I cannot drink the amount I used to before I was diagnosed with UC. And if I do overindulge, the hangovers are awful - vomiting, massive D and migraine headaches. Needless to say, I don't overindulge for that reason - I think this is the result of the UC. I've gone from heavy drinking in my twenties with no hangovers to not very much drinking and horrible hangovers if I overindulge in the least. The amount I'm able to drink now as compared to before UC without a hangover the next day is laughable.
Drinking in moderation, though, has not had any effect on my UC, not in a flare or in remission. I don't drink liquor, don't like the taste of it so I can't speak to the whiskey, vodka, tequila, etc.
Moderation is what I've gleaned from this thread from vast majority of all of us. If you're just starting to drink, I will venture to say that moderation will be difficult for you at first - especially in a social setting. After some bad next days though, you'll figure it out. If you'll take a helpful hint.......order water with every drink and make sure you finish the glass of water before you order another drink. The water will not only make it longer in between drinks but it will help you feel fuller so you won't feel like drinking as much.
