Started 6-MP yesterday - please share your experiences!

Yes I take 12 Asacol a day - and had been using one Canasa Suppository at night. But I can't seem to be off of Prednisone for more than 2 weeks without getting the bleeding etc again. I have not heard of colazol, Lialda, dipentum. What are those? I do not respond to cortenemas or anything like it. The Canasa has helped but just seems to be maintaining me whereever I am at. The Rowasa I was on for only the first month after diagnosis before being switched to Asacol pills. I am hopeful it will coat better than the suppository as I kill time and let Pred do it's magic - or so we hope. Not sure if raising it 5mg to 35 a day now will do anything but I will NOT go on those heavy duty things.

I too can't believe none of your doctors patients have not had flu like symptoms. How many patients does he have? 2? Are you sure he's a real Doctor?  devil Maybe he got his diploma from a crackerjack box.  eyes

Those drugs are all 5-aminosalicyclic acids like asacol with just different carrier molecules.  I'm wondering if the canasa gets up far enough.  I know when I tried the cortifoam I went into a real active flare because it didn't treat far up enough.  I had to go back to the cortenemas.  I actually found them quite soothing once I got used to it.  It does take a while (twice a day at first).  With them, I didn't have to take the oral steroids.  At least they didn't go all through my system.  Eventually, I was able to go off it ---on a regular basis anyway.  Too bad you don't respond to them.  Some people have to treat both ends--the asacol and rowasa for quite some time, before they can taper off and just take the pills.  I was doing that for a while.

Ok. Thanks for the info. Are you feeling all better now that you're off the 6mp? What is your plan now? Were you treating a flare?

I've been in a flare on and off for a year.  Just couldn't find the right treatment.  Tried a lot of different meds that either did nothing or made things worse.  I only started to feel better when I did the dipentum and cortenemas.  The 6MP was to try to get me off the cortenemas.

Once I got off the 6MP the fluish symptoms vanished.   I wasn't on it long enough to see if it would have made a major difference.  I did the dipentum and the rowasas for a while until I was able to taper off the rowasas.  I'm just taking dipentum now--just upped it to 5 a day and the rowasa if I start to feel like a flare may be starting for a night or two.   So far so good.
