Excruciating back pain?

Hi.  I'm new to the forum and have only spoken to one other person with UC so I'm wondering...does anyone else experience excruciating lower back pain with a flare?  I was diagnosed two years ago and after a long and difficult flare requiring two hospitalizatons, I have been in remission for almost two years with only some mild flares.  Two months ago, I started a severe flare that does not seem to be improving, even with the dreaded Prednisone.  I'm on 15 pills of Asacol, 1,000 mg of Canasa, 75 mg of the 6-MP and started the Prednisone almost three weeks ago at 30 mg.  The first week on the Prednisone, I was much improved, but the bleeding and pain started again.  I tapered to 25 mg the end of last week and was bleeding and in pain by Friday so I'm back up to 30 mg.  For some reason, the Prednisone doesn't seem to be helping much this time and,while, I've had back pain with a flare before, it's absolutely excruciating....anyone else experience that?  Also, I've communicated to my doctor that I am in horrible pain, but he tells me the only thing I can take is Tylenol, which does absolutely nothing.  Anyone else's doctor prescribe pain meds?  When I was in the hospital, I was given Morphine but I guess the doctor thinks if you're not in the hospital that you're not enduring horrible pain.  Thanks.

HI there

I have experienced lower back pain.  It lasted for about a week or so.  I did some physical therapy thinking it was my back acting up due to the way I was sleeping but no relief.  I can only think it is related to the inflammation going on inside of our abdomen.  I am better now but if the pain comes back the only thing suggested for me was tylenol as well!  I guess it is just one more thing we get to endure with this miserable disease!

I have had horrible lower back pain in the past few weeks. It's only when I lie down for any period of time. I can only sleep for about 4 or 5 hours before the pain is too much. I get up for awhile and it goes away. i told my GI (pain coincided with beginning imuran) and he said to ask my primary.

It's only getting worse and tylenol does nothing. No idea if it is even UC related.

Firstly allow me to take this opportunity to welcome you to HealingWell, it's a wonderful site where you will find support, advice and a shoulder to cry on whenever you need it.

As for back problems, UC can cause Arthritis and other issues many do suffer from lower back pain as a result of UC but in my opinion any such problems need investigating thoroughly. On August 13th I had to have surgery to remove one of two prolapsed discs in my neck and I am still suffering with excruciating pain in my neck and arms.

For so long I believed the pain I was suffering from was thanks to Arthritis brought on by my UC and because of that I never pushed the issue with my medical team, consequently I am facing permanent damage because what was pretty much a straightforward operation appears to have been performed too late, so please ensure you get checked out thoroughly, it took an MRI scan to reveal the damage to my neck.
