When I was diagnosed I was at my Weight Watchers Goal Weight of 162, on Prednisone for 18 months I went up to 178 lbs and was feeling really uncomfortable (especially as I refused to buy bigger clothes!).
Once I started on Remicade in July and tapering off the Prednisone, my weight started going down as it was easier to eat less. But the 2nd Remicade stopped working after only four weeks and I felt nauseous and exhausted all the time and lost more weight quickly.
I had a third Remicade a few weeks ago but it hasn't completely kicked in yet. I do feel a little better, not quite as exhausted, but still unable to work at my pre-flare up rate. I groom dogs in a mobile van and can no longer groom more than 5-6 per day and I used to groom 7-9 per day; it's a considerable loss of income, but I'm still doing okay.
And while I no longer am nauseous for half the day and just not hungry the rest of the time, I still get the nausea every few days and I really don't have much appetite. When I do eat just because I ought to, half the time it makes me feel ill. I can't remember the last time I ate a vegetable. I mostly exist on breakfast bars mid-morning and tortellini for lunch and dinner with a little olive oil on it. That and mashed potatoes are about all that really agrees with me. I am now down to 158 lbs, that's 20 lbs in less than two months.
I hit a "hippie" store on Monday that sells all sorts of supplements and homeopathic remedies and such and I am trying something called IntestiNew that claims to heal the intestines. It has L-Glutemate, N-Acetyl D Glucosamine, Gamma Oryzanol, Ginger, Marigold, Marshmallow & Cranesbill. It's a foul tasting powder but not too awful mixed in with DanActive probiotic yogurt drink. Been taking it for just two days so far. Anyone have any luck with this stuff? I am happy at this weight but don't want to lose any more.
