I have visited some of the best GI's in Engand, some of the best hospitals, and some also some of the best herbal, chinese, accupunture etc etc...
Every single one has said not to research on the internet or join forums - no patients are the same and you are how you feel, you don't need someone on the net influencing that.
I've found the Internet and scads of books on digestive health by reputable physicians and health care providers to be invaluable. When I was first diagnosed my doc said, "You have a chronic disease. You will never be well. You will stay on this medication (Asacol) until you get sick enough to have your colon removed." Thank God I didn't take this gastro doctor's word as gospel. I want to be an informed patient and take active part in my own care and recovery. I want to use all the tools at my disposal - including dietary manipulation and natural supplements, which doctors generally never discuss - to bring about
a return to health, not just a suppression of symptoms. The Internet can be a valuable tool for research and to talk to other sufferers who've had success with various treatment options.
