so i have just started dating someone i really like. he knows that i have "colon problems" but doesn't understand the extent of them. we are going away this weekend (one bathroom) and i am a little worried ) (ok, a lot) about how that is going to work out. he's super nice and would be understanding, i just wish it wasn't an issue. any advice on how to make this weekend have less "problems"? i mean, i am human, i don't want him to hear EVERYTHING, you know?

Bring a small portable radio or something that makes some noise and put it in the bathroom. Turn it on when using the bathroom.

Heck, he may even appreciate it being there when it's his turn to use the bathroom!

Hey, I know just how you feel; I'm in the same boat. I sometimes turn on the water and I bring a small can of Oust with me (you can get the small samples where in the travel section.) Good luck and have fun this weekend...remember....it's only human!

If he is like my husband, he probably won't even notice if he is watching TV or sleeping.  Maybe having the TV turned up a bit may help.

I always run the water and/or turn on the exhaust fan. That helps to drown out any noise. Enjoy your weekend!

I always turn on the exhaust fan, I also have a radio in the bathroom which I could use if things are really bad. But the best thing to keep in mind is my favorite book title (which I've never read) "Everybody Poops"
And even though we poop more than most people, everybody farts and burps too, so you're not gonna make any noise that he hasn't made before.
He may giggle a bit, but he'll get over it.

oh sweetie... this is not silly at all. we have all been there.

i use the fan and run the water. The guy should def. understand. I always try to be honest about my condition without giving too many details. You will be fine. have a great time!

Are you kidding.....I have been married for 6 years (together for over 8) & I worry. If the bathroom only has one toliet I totally either run water or the shower. OR I make an excuse to go to the lobby and use the main bathroom.

BWAHAHA I'm past the point of worrying, I've only been married for a month almost.


When I first started dating my now hubby.. I was in the WORST flare of my life... and he wanted to go on a 3 hour trip away from anywhere I felt comfortable haha. Not only was I nervous because he was a new guy in my life, but also because at that point in time I made SO much noise in the bathroom.


When we got to the hotel... there was ofcourse only ONE bathroom. And OFCOURSE even with water and fan on it feels like it's echoing or something.

So what I tried to do most of the time is make an excuse... I'm gonna go get a snack.. run down to the lobby and use their public bathroom hahaha. And in the middle of the night if I woke up too.. I'd just sneak outta the room and go down to the lobby.

But further into dating ofcourse whenever one of us farted or burped we laughed about it and would in a cute way say OOPS I GOT THE GAS BUBBLES!
hahahaha.

Now he knows my sounds... so I don't care anymore.



BUT yeah.. try all the water, fan and flushing the toilet when you really have to let one rip. hahaha

Just sing - loudly !!

Ive been with my husband 20 years and apart from the odd slip up we have never passed wind in front of each other , weird i know but i think its kind of sweet , anyway that was until this year when i had the worse flare of my life , and i wouldnt have cared if he'd been sitting on my lap , you cant control it , ive just realised this doesnt really answer your question , Sorry, i hope you have a wonderful time anyway ! lol

all of the above and leave something 'out in the car' for those really loud farts that need some space. Mine can get very, very loud. I brought the trash out last night during the Patriots game, otherwise I would have shook the house (we only have one bathroom and it is right next to the living room) most of the time, the fan and water drown it out but I get nervous around company (even though I should not).

Some excellent ideas here...

I guess it's kinda like trying not to fart in an elevator...lol, but we're human so even if he hears you...I'm sure he will understand, you're only human.

Go and have fun, if that means switching on the fan or radio...so be it.

I also use the radio and light lots of candles! See, candles are also romantic....works two ways...

I got lucky. My husband and I are very open with each other. I think talking about bm's is as common as the weather in our house. It took awhile to get this comfortable with each other it takes time. Most likely he won't notice but if he does notice it's a good test of what kind of guy he is. I'm sure everything will go great! Have fun!

Even though my hubby doesn't care and will laugh with me, I still turn on the exhaust fan! We have some old ones that are SUPER loud (to my ears) so they should drown out most noise.

But really, if those noises are going to scare away a potential mate - good ridance!

Just be prepared to laugh :)

(I like the one about the "gas bubbles". It's funny.)

i have absolutely no issues anymore with any noise smell sound or anything that comes outta my bum im public or private.

we all do it and there is no stopping us whether we want to or not.

i dont even close the bathroom door at home. i just let'er go and thats that.
(of course he yells from acoss the house "good god woman", but that just makes me giggle so i dont care)
i mean, what can you do? nothing. its just the way we are!

you should just mention to him that you have a medical condition that makes you run to the loo alot and its a bit noisy. best to get it out in the open first off. so then you have one less thing to worry about. cuz "worry" is not good for our colons.

maybe you share an "embarrassing moment" with him and he with you. and make yours a poo story. a funny one. laugh it off and tell him that its gonna happen more and to be prepared.

most guys like honesty and they dont care about this stuff. they are guys. they fart and poop and all that jazz. its the girls that get all embarrassed.

i say get it out first and then when you go to the can, tell him to turn up the tv really loud so he can't hear you!

all went well! somehow i managed to avoid anything to terrible and i had a wonderful weekend. YEA! (good trick--if you can swing it--try to take care of business before you take a shower. the water drains out the noise and the soap makes the bathroom smell fresh and clean. of course, it only works about once a day, but still

Glad to hear nothing terrible happened. I found that my gas bombs are louder and more stinky now that have UC. Not sure if thats just the diet im on now or what but it gets bad (even when not flared). When im going to be away from home, out on the town, or an important meeting at work, I always eat a few Imodium AD and this seems to hold off those barking smelly gremlins long enough to make it to a safe sound proof place (not always but they do help). I got it bad, my wife is totally against ripping them in front of each other, so i have to go in the other room and light a match to cover up. Water running and fan are good to cover up but nothing beats the shower or electric clippers/razor. Going on a trip i would be worried about the type of TP the hotel or place im staying at has. Most of the time its ruff stuff which is why i never leave home without my travel kit. Meds of course, Hemi cream and medicated wipes (how refreshing after a long day of wiping), Imodium AD, matches, air freshener, and a good mag or book.
