i can not give you ideas on other options. my experiences are personal and are all surgical. i can only tell you about the anger i feel that a colorectal surgeon along with information from my GI should know better or should have considered my future and that they didnt. i cant think how i would have known that i was risking my future options. AND sometime i leak...which sucks. i had a severe problem and had 3 operations.
recovery from this type of surgery was brutal. if i were you, i would try to make sure that you always always drink enough water and consider fibre supplements. although i always thought fiber just made my poo big, which was bad for my hemmorhoids. also be careful about what drugs constipate you. if your UC is bad this may not be enough. i had hemmorhoids before i had UC. but UC through the years really took its toll (on my but hole) :) but hey i am hemmorhoid free. i would rather be UC free. :(
