OT gag reflex and thrush

I on occasion get oral thrush from my steroid inhaler for asthma. I can say that my throat can get a bit sore if I have it. If your throat is sore and with a yeast overgrowth, it can cause a gagging feeling I would think...something is in there, more mucus would be produced and it would feel as though you can't swallow properly.

I would think that if your tongue is affected from the yeast and the tastebuds are "smothered"...food won't taste the same and even offensive or nauseating.

It's also possible that you have reflux as well that will give a gagging feeling and the taste of stomach acid will change the perception of food.

For the yeast in my throat, I have a script for Nystatin drops. I use them only when I need....

I also gargle with grapefruit seed extract (which also has oregano leaf extract)...dropper full of the liquid in a glass of warm water.
When I swish it through my mouth, it will definitely change the perception of food tastes...yuck.

So, I would suggest you get a prescription of Nystatin and use it faithfully until the infection is gone, then maybe gargle with what I use and that should help keep it clear in your mouth. I have on occasion swallowed a teeny bit of that stuff, and it could surely make me want to vomit...so gagging on the taste alone keeps my throat nicely closed...ugh!..lol!

i had oral thrush from the steroid injections and the pred. i used nystatin drops as well. they worked pretty quick to fix it.
it was like soggy bread caked all over the inside of my mouth and cheeks and tongue. gross!!!
all food tastes diffferent now. 6 weeks later. i hate it. i just want stuff to taste like it used to.
quite annoying.

as for gag reflex.. well i had that for 6 months but it went away. i couldnt swallow any pills without throwing up. actuallly looking at a pill would make me almost vomit. was horrible.
dr said it was related to all the pain i was having in my belly. ???
