Mesalamine enemas and diarrhea

Mesalamine gives me ferocious D, whether I take it orally or rectally. But that's not the usual reaction, so it could really be either. You might try either stopping the mesalaming or going back on the entcort for a bit to see if it changes anything. The problem with changing two meds at once is that it's hard to differentiate which one caused any changes in your symptoms.

BTW, what kind of med is remicade?

Mitzo, Remicade is an engineered drug originally developed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, now also used for a number of other auto-immune diseases including Crohn's and UC. Its generic name is inflixamib. It is an anti-tumor necrosing factor, a type of antibody. It's given every six or eight weeks through an IV infusion. Because it is very expensive, usually all of the more standard treatments (5-ASA's of different types and by different routes, steroids, immunosuppressants, etc.) are tried before it. For some of us it has been a godsend, for others it hasn't really helped. It put me into a remission when I couldn't get there with any combination of other drugs. I had gotten to the point of considering surgery after a four-year flare.
