the flu shot

it may be too late in the season, but i was never comfortable getting the shot. i am wondering if my daughter should have it?will getting the flu make her any sicker than a healthy young person getting the flu?
is it reccommended for people with uc. i'm still thinking about that gardasil shot i gave her right before her symptoms began. vaccines worry me.-thanks

They recommend that anyone that has a chronic health condition get the flu shot. I get one every year (so does my 16 year old son because he has asthma) and I have never had any adverse reaction to it other then a sore arm. And it's never too late to have the flu shot. The flu can be especially hard on us because it can trigger flares. Also, if someone is on steroids or immune suppressors, it lowers the immune system which can make a flu worse.

I was told by my daughters Ped GI to always get the shot (never the mist).

When I was younger, my mom would always take me to get the flu shot and then as I got a little older I never got one...I probably went about 15 years without getting the vaccine and how I managed to go that long without getting the flu is beyond me...Just an occassional cold, some worse than others but never the flu...I was just diagnosed with UC last year and my Dr. recommended me getting one...I was also on prednisone and remicade, so that increased my chances of getting the flu...Anyway, my point being I did get the shot this year, first time in a really long time...No side effects, just a sore arm...
