Does anyone know when the generic form of Colazal will be available?

Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. SLXP today announced that, pursuant to a supply and distribution agreement with Watson Pharma, Inc., Watson will market and sell an authorized generic of COLAZAL(R) (balsalazide disodium) Capsules 750 mg, the Company's anti-inflammatory drug approved for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis. Watson will launch the authorized generic product immediately. December 28, 2007 article

So I'm assuming they're just waiting for the distribution agreement. So it should be any day now!

I am getting a refill on my Colazal tonight with generics for the first time. My pharmasist tells me it will save me over $200 a month.

The generic from Mylan is already out. I filled my colozal yesterday with it. I am sure the generic from Salix will be out soon and I don't know how it will be pricewise but I have been filling a non-generic 90 pill prescription for $144. My cost for the Mylan generic 90 pills was $45. Fantastic! That's full price not any form of co-pay.

I called to fill my prescription for Colozal yesterday and the pharmacist told me that they had the generic form now. I was so excited! I went from paying $70 a month for Colozal to $10 a month for the generic form! :)

has anybody gotten any of the other generic besides Mylan?

The price of the Mylan generic went up almost double for no reason. The first time I filled my prescription it was $46 then a month later I filled it and it was $75. I asked the pharmacy why it was more expensive and they said that it might have been a price adjustment.

I wonder if the different generics will be different prices and I should ask the pharmacy if I have a choice of which generic or do they always fill you on the cheapest?

Most pharmacies will try to get the lowest possible price of generic but it never hurts to ask. Going from $46 to $75 seems a bit of a price hike though. Did they change manufacturers? Mylan - is that a manufacturer or a med?

Mylan is the manufactur of one of the generic colozal's

I know that Salix (Colozal maker) made a press release saying they were working with someone else to put out their own generic. I don't know the name of that company though.

I have never had medications change price like that but a female friend of mine said that her birth control changes in price month to month for no reason.

Mine is made by Roxane Labs - would that also be the manufacturer? Sorry, I pretty much woke up and the ole brain isn't functioning yet! lol

Mine is from Wyeth. It is identical to Colazal, down to the number stamped on the capsule. If you ever noticed, your old Colazal bottle said "Distributed by Salix..." That usually means someone else made it for them, and they distribute it under their name. I suspect what I'm taking now is the same thing I've been taking for years, at about 2/3 the cost.

I can find information saying Roxane labs got permission on Jan. 2 to sell generic balsalazide. i can find information that Mylan got permission on Dec 31 to sell it.

I can't find anything mentioning that Wyeth has ever made balsalazide. Did you buy that in another country because it just came off patent in the US.

Do you guys that get it from Roxane labs know what the full price is on your prescription or do you just use copays? I have to meet a $500 deductible before my copays kick in so I pay full retail until then.

I had a post not too long ago about the cost of generic (full price) and it was around $350 or so. Many of us couldn't believe how much it was just for generic.

I get my Wyeth from the same pharmacy here in the US that I always got my Colazal from. My thought that it's the same thing I've been taking all along is based on the appearance. Even after drugs go generic, companies tend to maintain patents on the appearance of the meds - pill or capsule shape, color, etc.

I just got generic colazal ....last week for the first time i dont no the cost without insurance yet i change pharm and i was lucky to get it ......it is Mylan lab .....i am on the the west coast California as soon as i find out the cost i will let you no
