generic colazal now available

my local pharmacy here in NC filled my colazal script with a generic today. just wanted to let you know since some of you posted about the cost of colazal and wondering when the generic would become available...

Sweet! Thank you :) I'm lucky that I don't have to pay for my Colazal but a $10 copay, but now with generic I'll only have to pay $5. I just wonder if it's going to be the same as the brand name........you know, effectiveness wise.

Just picked up my daughter's refill of her Colazal and it is now generic and called Balsalazide. I hope the change over doesn't cause any problems. I hate that the change over also coincides with her finishing her very slow wean off of prednisone. She is down to 1mg every other day and will be finished after this weekend.

She has been doing great and has even grown an inch since October. She is so happy, although still the second shortest in her class. She also just recently mastered swallowing the Colazal - yeah, no more applesauce!!!!

What do you all know about the generic of colazal? Would you give it to your child? I know my son's doctor does NOT like to give generic Imuran (azathioprine).

I have no problem taking a generic. I'm glad it is finally generic for all of those that don't have insurance. I also take azathioprine as opposed to Imuran. Never had any problems.

Just got back from walgreens (I hate them) My script of Colazal was supposed to be ready @ 4:00 p.m. After waiting in line for 30 minutes, they say "oh sorry we don't have any" I was ticked to say the least mad   I made them start calling other Walgreens, NO ONE had it!!! I said how can you not have Colazal anywhere? She said oh no, it's the generic, it just came out...but no one has it yet. And your insurance says if a drug has a generic, we have to fill it with generic. I said do you have Colazal!!??? they said yes &%#!#$%#@$%^ It took everything I had to not yank her over the counter. So she was aware that no one had it yet & she wasn't going to fill my script with Colazal. I was pretty angry...she very snottily said well I can give you the Colazal but your co-pay will be 135.00....DUH!!! thats what I always pay. I'm so sick of incompetence mad

I will be interested to see what my co-pay will be with the generic. If Walgreens ever pulls their head out of their butt and gets it in stock (did I mention I hate walgreens)

barbl - I hate Walgreens, too! I try to avoid them at all costs. Sorry you had such a frustrating time there. I'm lucky I go to a great locally owned pharmacy. The pharmacist knows me by name and is super nice and helpful.

I wish Asacol would get a generic! Glad all of you on colazal got a generic though.

I take generic on all my drugs. I have no concerns about it, neither does my GI.

Hi,
Did the Asacol just stop working, or did it ever work? My son had very good results during his first flare, but this time....4 months later, still not right. He takes 12 a day. Should the GI consider Colazal?

Definitely try Colazal and he should try Rowasa too.

What's the new price for generic Colazal? I'd consider switching from Asacol if it was cheap enough.

But hopefully Asacol might lower their price just to keep people from doing that *crosses fingers*

Lets hope that they lower the cost over this. The price for asacol is unreal

The price will vary with the provider, probably. Larger companies may be able to negotiate lower prices from the manufacturers. I just got mine filled at Randalls (Safeway) and their cost was $330. I paid $10.

I hate Walgreen's too, for the same reasons. I refuse to deal with them.

Today when I picked up my Protonix it was generic, I don't mind saving a few bucks, looks like the same pills to me as well.
I'm on Lialda now, so highest teir drug (still not awful, $25 with my insurance) and worth it not to have to take pills 3X a day. Just a big heap o'meds in the morning.
