Travel Via Public Transport After Colonoscopy?

So,I've just postponed my C-Scope,as my brother couldn't get time off work to drive over and pick me up after.I've deferred to a day when I know my Dad could come and get me,but he doesn't drive(unusual to our American friends I know,but not so uncommon here in England).So my question is,could I travel home with him via train(roughly 11 miles)?
You should also know that the sedatives have never worked on me.I've seen patients wheeled out on trolleys after me,partially comatose!All this after I've leapt off the trolley,got dressed(of my own accord)and sat with a coffee and a biscuit.I can also recount every minute of the procedure,so I know I was never "out".
Hopefully my brother can make it this time,but if he can't,is it viable to travel with my Dad via train?

I would think if they have seats you can lean back in and you have a responsible adult with you, it would be okay. Check with your hospital or endoscopy center to see what their regulations are. Most have rules about who and how you can be discharged. In a setting where many people don't drive or don't have cars, I can't imagine they wouldn't allow this.

Yes, we do use our cars to excess in this country.

I would consider wearing a diaper though just to be safe... I am sure you will be empty after the scope but you don't want to have to worry about having the sharts on the train.

Should be fine. I took a taxi home from my first c-scope, because I didn't have a ride. Drove myself there and felt completely normal afterward, but they wouldn't let me drive home.

should be fine...it's not like you'll be driving. Just make sure you spend a lot of time on the toilet after the procedure to get all the air/farts out.

WOW...the hospitals where I live wouldn't let anyone leave on public transportation after being sedated from having a scope done...if you have no other alternative then a taxi is likely much better than a bus.

Not everyone has a car...I don't see why they wouldn't let you use public transport.

I think it would be fine. I get my colonoscopy about a 30-minute drive from my home. My husband drives me home and I never have any problems on the trip. I'd think that a short train ride would be very similar. But will you have to walk far when you get off the train? That's something I personally wouldn't feel up for. Generally, we get home and I walk slowly to the bed and then I'm out for a few hours!

It's the rule of thumb where I live, you must have someone drive you home after sedation for a colonoscopy....one never knows how they'll react to the sedation meds, so it's for your own safety.

Thanks for your replys.I think I will just travel back with Dad if needs be,in my past experience the sedative thing is a mute point.If I can get something that does actually work this time(Lorazepam,please!)he can always guide me into a taxi and go from there.

I don't see why it would be a problem. After my two c-scopes I just had someone come meet me and walk me home (I live a 10-min walk from the hospital). I was pretty okay to walk (arm-in-arm), though if I'd felt too sedated, I would have taken a cab. As long as you can get a seat, and have someone with you, you should be all right.

As I said before,thanks for all your replys.I'm not even going to mention it at Hospital,as long as someone arrives to collect me,I'll go from there.I just want this out of the way,it's been ten years since the last and it's so traumatic,I'm still getting tachycardiac thinking about it!

In the U.S. city where I live, the clinics where c-scopes are done require patients to be picked up by a "responsible adult" in order to be released from the facility & in compliance with state health dept. laws. Once you leave the premises, though, they don't care what means of transport you use to get home as long as you don't drive yourself. I have returned home at times by city bus, & otherwise by taxi. Hopefully, the ride home will not be bumpy from potholes in the road-- but then you wrote that you can take the train, right? It should work out o.k. Thanks Old Hat,that's really made me feel more confident about things.I just always assumed being "picked up",meant a taxi home,via a family member!I can relax from now on,as I now know I can just get Dad to collect me.I should really have been "looked" at many times over the last few years,but "dropped off the radar",so to speak!
It always seemed such a chore to go through things,that I just kept getting Pred scripts filled,and avoided chasing GI visits,for further investigation.
I will now try and go "by the book",get this C-Scope over with,and go from there.I also need to discuss Asacol with the GI,as it makes me feel sick(last couple of years)and really can't tolerate it any longer.
