Generic Colazal- Big pills

Well, I just picked up my 1st prescription of generic Colazal, and wow, those pills are a lot bigger than Asacol!! Well, I hope these work as well as the Asacol.

I had a size shock too when I switched to Colazal after Asacol! The bottle was absolutely huge! I haven't got my script filled yet for generic but I'm hoping that they're not any bigger.

I just got my first generic refill. Guess what? The generic caps look just like the Colazal. Same size, same color. The ones my pharmacy has are from Watson labs.

I remember when I switched from Asacol to Colazal, thinking those were horse capsules. Now I don't even think about them being big.

Yeah, I am on Lialda now, but man those Colazal are HUGE. But before too long I was downing them three at a time. No problemo.

Yep, they are HUGE!! I am proud to say that just in the last few days my 8 year old has learned to swallow them!! When she was first dx 8/07 she could not swallow any pill, now she has mastered Colazal!!! She is so happy not to take everything in applesauce anymore!!

ick..generic colazal ruined my weekend!


got a prescription filled on thursday, took the pills on friday. by friday afternoon i was stuck in bad, super nauseous. Vomited brilliant yellow vomit all this morning and called the doc. Generic Colazal might not have the same delivery coating as colazal itself, and so I think itmight have been breaking open too early. Anyway... generic colozal bites!

just felt like sharing--regular colazal seemed to work ok for me though. anyone else had a similar experience?

I picked mine up on Thursday and started taking it and had no problems. Of course, I have been in remission for a yr now, so I can't say anything negitive.

Yikes! Now I'm nervous about getting the generic! Sure you didn't have a tummy bug?

I don't think Colazal has a special coating (like asacol or entocort) because before my daughter learned to swallow the colazal we were instructed to empty the contents of the capsule into applesauce which is something you're NOT supposed to do with timed release or special coated medicine. Perhaps you do have a stomach bug.

I have been switching my daughter over slowly to the generic - this past week she took 2 colazal and 1 generic and this week I'll do 2 generic and 1 colazal until we finish up the colazal. So far she has not had any problems...

Since I started taking it 3days ago, I am having more bm's but I'm not sure if it's the med, or the fact that I'm eating more and better foods. While I'm driving my truck on the road I don't eat very well, but once I get home, I eat very well, and drink a lot of water.

I have been taking the generic colazal for about 3 weeks now. The only difference I see is the color is a little more orange than the regular colazal. I seem to have more heartburn since I've been taking the generic. I take Nexium for the heartburn so it can be controlled pretty easily. The cost is so much cheaper for the generic. I don't mind putting up with the heartburn.

yup, I'm sure it wasn't a tummy bug--talked to both the pharmacist and my doc and they said that the generic form of colazal can increase risks of tummy upset-ness. I've had problems with normal colazal in the past too, but its only been while on high dosage and while i was REALLY light (like concentration camp light). Then everything (stool and urine) turned bright yellow too--it was like...toxic super-neon yellow..

so vomitting bright yellow was a clear indicator that the colazal wasn't getting through my sytem.

as for the coating--Im not sure if the powder inside has the coating or the pill--its considered 'granulated', whatever that means. All I know is my doc said that colazal had a different 'delivery mechanism' than asacol, and that included a timed delay release of some form. It was my guess that the pill coating itself was part of that and the doc agreed. Perhaps your daughter doesnt have adverse reactions to colazal in general, and it can get through the stomach ok for her, and that's why the coating wasn't as important?

who knows! this junk seems to act differently for everyone :)

I think I lucked out and got the same thing I've been taking. My Colazal was flesh-colored caps with the letters "CZ" stamped on them. The generic I got is identical. The generic is made by Watson labs, and I noticed the brand-name said "Made for" Salix. I'm thinking Watson was producing it for them, and I probably got the exact same thing I've been taking.

I'll be interested to see what I get. I'm due for a refill in about a week. Will let you guys know how it goes.
