Anal fissures?

Dear All, I seem to have an inflammation of the anus as it hurts each time I go to the washroom. Sometimes, there are small traces of blood on the tissue after I've wiped a lot and it is always very itchy. So far my UC symptoms haven't returned, although I have the occasional bad day. Short of going to the doctor for more meds which can be steriods, is there anything else I can take?

Do you have hemmeroids? The itching can be a sign of them.

Try the time-honored remedies for hemorrhoids - sitz baths and OTC meds. Preparation H or the equivalent. If that doesn't clear up the problem it'll be time to call your doctor.

If itchy but not swollen it could be a fungal irritation. My gastro recommends Tuck's medicated pads to get rid of "debris" (such as tiny toilet paper bits) that can stick to skin there & cause fungus to grow. One soothing ointment for that kind of irritation is Desiten, usually marketed for kiddie diaper rash treatment. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

This does not sound like fissures. Fissures are best identified by the feeling of "crapping razor blades". What you have sounds more like a hemmoroid and possible yeast infection. If the itching is driving you mad, it's probably yeast so see your GI. If it's mile you can try some OTC ointments.

Before Surgery for bladder suspension & other repairs, my doctor found I had hemmroids.  The first one he "rubber-banded" which was painless til it started to strangulate & had some pain.  Right before surgery last Oct., he lazered the remaining two since they needed to heal before surgery.  Had the surgery & was a success til I started to have UC flares quite frequently around the holidays & continue even now.  With these flares, I'm afraid that the suspension of the bladder is being compromised & I also suspect that I have more hemmroids due to these flares.  I go to my doctor on Thurs. to have him check out what's happening.  I feel like the whole bottom is dropping out of my when I'm on my feet for any period of time.  Is hemmroids a given side affect of UC flares?  Will I constantly be treated for these until I go into remission?  At this point, I don't see anything improving in the near future.  I've been on Prednisone, Nexium, & Asacol for a month & am still suffering.  I have also eliminated alcohol, caffeine, raw vegetables but nothing seems to help.  Any advice from anyone?

Take a look at this link, the first set of pics is hemmies, the pics under that are perianal crohns skin tags which are realted to crohns disease (never UC) but with so many misDX between UC and CD it never hurts to be as knowledgable as possible, especially regarding hemmie-type problems...

When I had a fissure my doctor prescribed me Nitroglycerin ointment.  It seemed to work well but it can cause headaches.

Thanks for the link to hemmroids-----even though they were oh so gross!!!  I will ask my doctor on Thurs. what's going on with them.  I'm also experiencing loss of stool at times.  It happens when I'm going off & on all day, a little at a time.  I'm OK til I sit & then when I get up gravity works against me & I lose it.  I've asked my dr. about it & questioned him about my muscles being weak but he doesn't seem to be concerned about it or do anything about it.  I makes for many, many trips to the bathroom which is very inconvient, time consuming & makes me sore down there all the time.  He also suggested I put cotton against the area & use medicated wipes but this doesn't seem to help.  Believe me----I have tried everything anyone suggests to me.

You're welcome Lindy...how about sitz baths with epsom salts, frequently is better...I have the perianal crohns skin tags (and have issues to long to get into right now) but I also rub a little extra virgine olive oil on them every night before bed, it's very soothing.
