Hehe, you succeed! I just noticed this thread tonight, obviously. No worries, I know how frenzied life can get, especially with an active flare. I am having Koruda perform my colectomy. I had my consult with him back on the 25th of January, and I found him quite professional. Actually him and the general surgeon were very knowledgeable and to the point, which I like. I personally cannot stand cheery, overly-enthusiastic docs (nurses like that however are a godsend). He was a bit simple in responses about concerns over having possible chron's-colitis, but the possibility is quite slim given my history and past tests, etc. He doesn't do laproscopic for this type of surgery, citing that the colon can be quite damaged at times and can be hard to remove using a laproscopic approach. He also said, (trying to remember here), that the main incision would be needed regardless of whether or not the surgery was laproscopically assisted. So either way I lose my abdomen muscles for a few weeks.
I'm glad to hear you are trying the rectal meds, and then you have remicade as an option if that fails. I had good success with rowasa enemas before my UC spun out of control. Your GI sounds familiar but I have never met him. He sounds quite reasonable in his opinion of surgical consults. I had my original appt with Koruda back in Dec...I kinda wish I had kept it but my fiancee was graduating on the same day, so I had to reschedule. Could've possibly been done and over with by now if I hadn't, but thats life eh?
As for the next time I'm in town, that will be next week for my surgery! I'll be in town sometime tuesday...but I have to start my colonoscopy prep as soon as I get home :(. I am so not looking forward to that. Rather have tasty tea in chapel hill. Hehe. And I can't wait to have coffee again! I better stop before I start thinking about all the other foods I have given up.
