How to enjoy the colonoscopy exam

Say, Rio, be sure to negotiate the cost with the hospital. Not sure you're aware if you're not insured (assuming you aren't insured and that's why you have to pay personally) that insurance companies routinely discount what they pay the doc/hospital for any procedure. I remember paying for my first colonoscopy (and it was like $2200) and the hospital said, "That's okay, you can pay it over time, like $300 a month." I thought that was generous. Once I got insurance, I realized I paid probably $500 to $1,000 more than the insurance company would have paid.

Be sure to ask for the insurance company price!!!

You don't pay out of pocket (so to speak) in Canada either, of course you have to be a citizen and be paying your provincial health care, but they knock you out cold here for colonoscopies for sure, with sigmoidoscopies it's your choice if you want to be awake or not, so you have to ask for sedation for that otherwise they'll likely just do it while you're awake.
