Anyone on or have taken MESASAL?

I was taking Asacol up until I had this flare up. Then my Dr. increased the Asacol and also put me on Entocort. I find the Entocort helped alot with the pain. He had only wanted me to try it for 2 weeks tho. Once I came off the Entocort my pains were not long coming back. So I went back to Dr today and he has given me another prescription for the Entocort and partnered that with Mesasal which I have to try taking instead of Asacol.

Comments.. help.. suggestions... stories?? Anything?? LOL.

I haven't used it....what's the dosage of each pill? How many are you taking?

I don't see you on rectal meds....consider them.

curious where in Canada are you?

:) They are 500mg tablets taken 3 times a day. No, I have never been prescribed rectal meds... to be honest the thought of them give me the shivers. I don't have alot of diarrhea even when I amflaring.. just alot of regular movments but I have lots of pain, cramping.. very tired.. fevers and anxiety. I just started the Mesasal today. AS for where about in Canada I am.. Nova Scotia.. the good old East Coast.. and yourself?

Hi...how many mesacal are you taking daily?

Is your UC pancolitis....is that why the doc is giving you the Entocort?
It's good you're not having much diarrhea...something is working regarding higher than the rectum inflammation.

Rectal meds can be intimidating...but really consider them because that will help immensely. They can become your best friend for treating flares. Remember that the oral topicals won't reach the rectum...and the rectum pretty much rules. Keeping inflammation down there will lessen your flare symptoms as well if you learn how to use them effectively.

For the other symptoms of pain and cramping...you could ask your doc for an antispasmodic...I use Bentylol (dicyclomine). I started with 10mg and eventually started using 20mg.

Nove Scotia (never been there but I hear it's absolutely beautiful!)....lots of snow that way this past winter...Hope you're well on the way to Spring!

I'm in Winnipeg, MB. We had pretty much a normal winter..cold..but I don't mind that part.

Please think about the rectal meds....I would suggest you do the retention enemas..Salofalk.
