I don't think what you're experiencing is that unusual. The smells probably set off peristalsis in your digestive tract, giving you urgency when the contractions affect your rectum. A couple days ago I was discussing eye sensitivity with my ophthalmologist, who commented: "Some people are extra-sensitive to many things, but others aren't bothered by ANYTHING, my dad, for example." / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)
Let me just add that this doctor went on to say that changes in blood pressure, blood sugar levels, & hormone levels can lead to sensitivity reactions, the result of physiological stress.
