pain in right side- update

Hi,

So, I never went to the naturopath. I cheaped out, since the visit was going to put me back $150 and my friend's wedding is Sat.

Anyway, the pain in my right side has been happening since last Fri. Went to the ER- was told it was another symptom of the DD. Called the doc last night, because the pain is unrelenting. She told me to take an antacid. I did. It helped a little.

For those with pain in their sides, has your doc suggested an antacid? You may want to consider trying it (under medical supervision). It shouldn't hurt!

Hey Tressa.. I was waiting to see what had happened at the naturopath.. I woulda done the same thing if it was going to cost me that much ! Especially since I have been off work since March. You found the antacid worked ? Is your pain above or below your belly button ? I can see it working if it above your belly button but my pain is below... sometimes the pain even goes down my right leg. Its pretty frustrating !! I actually had very little pain for 6 days straight and it just decided to come back full force today. I was pretty disappointed let me tell ya !! I thought it had packed up and left !!

I went to see my family Doctor on Tuesday who has been trying all different kinds of meds to try to help me thru this flare but to no avail. He's done experimenting with me and told me to stop taking everything until I see the GI on June 7th. He just hopes I last that long I guess, lol. I am very uncomfortable not taking anything at all. My Asacol pills are looking pretty good right now altho they didn't help in March. Its funny cuz when I was first diagnosed I was terrified about taking so many pills and now that I am on nothing but my vitamins I am even MORE terrified!!

Sigh.... good luck with the antacid keep me updated !!!!

ps I sent for a free sample of Digestive Advantage... going to give it a try when it gets here !

Well, last night, I was up for a couple hours with pain in my side. It's directly under my right ribs just above my belly button.
The ER doc was probably right- it's probably a flare in my ileum/terminal ileum. I'm the perpetual optimist. I was so hoping the antacid would work! Oh- the blood's back, too. ugh. I do have an appt. with the new GI, who the ER doc recommended, but that's not until the end of June.

Today, I'm on my way to my best friend's wedding in Michigan. Gotta pack... and hope that I'm not too sick while there!

Mine isn't hurting much anymore but as soon as it stopped I started seeing blood and mucus more regularly. Even though I think I am getting worse I am feeling alot better. Part of it is the ct scan is clear so I know my kidneys/ liver is okay. I guess I feel more "normally" bad. I switched to colazal so maybe that will help. I'm supposed to go on vacation in a week and it's looking like I might need a pred taper which sucks. I will I could magically lose twenty pounds first.

I'm with you, Jessica. My other symptoms are back. Bleeding and mucus. ugh. I wonder if the colazal is gonna help you. I hope so! It can be a relief when the tests come back neg, but still, I wonder what's wrong!

Jenn- I can understand being scared to go off meds, but you said they weren't helping anyway? I wonder what the GI will say? Let us know, please.

I'm in Michigan now and stopped at the "Vitamin Shoppe". I bought phospatydilcholine for $16. I've read in other posts that there's been research about it and that it's helpful. I figure, it won't hurt.

I'm not sure about the digestive advantage. Others rave about that, too. Let us know if it helps!

Well, I think the Sulfasalazine were working because I had no pains for 6 days but I had to stop taking them because of the intense headaches I was getting. So now my family Dr told me only to take one Sulfasalazine in the evening if my symptoms came back. I had a really bad cold during those 6 days as well... not sure if that had anything to do with anything or not. In any case.. I have been off the Sulfasalazine since Tuesday and my pains came back Thursday and today they are full force.. so I took a pill tonight with my supper... I am praying I will not get a headache from it.

I am also getting "new" pains now... I had them like under my ribs all afternoon... and theres a strange little white spot on my side... it looks like a little scar... when I touch it it hurts like crazy.. like a really tender bruise. I noticed the pain from it in the shower today and got my mom to have a look because I couldn't twist to see it because of all my other pains. She held another mirror so I could get a look at it myself and surly enough it looks like a little white scar. The other pains I have been getting feel more like a stinging pain rather than the lower right side cramp pain I had before. Sigh.... the battles continue !!!!

I guess the only good thing is I seem to have some strength and energy back. I haven't needed a nap in a few days now and have been able to get some house work done. :)

I never heard of phospatydilcholine before... I'll have to look it up. I am going to look for the Digestive Advantage stuff in the grocery stores tomorrow and see how much it is, etc... I get impatient waiting for free samples in the mail !!! LOL.
