cold medicine effects

I have had a really bad cold for about a week (not on antibiotics) but have been taking over the counter cold medicine. In that time I have started flaring. I went to my primary care doctor and she said it was just a cold and i did not need antibiotics (which usually throw me into a flare).

Has anyone else experienced problems with cold medicine? or do you think maybe my immune system is just crashing???

I havent called my gastro yet...i just feel so sick all around and can't fathom starting streroids too. Advice? Help? PLease!!!

Same thing happened to me.
I had a very bad cold last month and to recover from that i started taking Nyquil night.
I'm able to get rid of cold , but after that my UC started flaring.
Immediatly contacted my GI and they kept me on Pred and ordered for Colonoscopy
Now I'm at 20mg of Pred and looks like things are getting better.

Up until mid-February I seemed to be disease free (lasted almost 8 months) and then I caught my daughter's cold and within a day I began bleeding. I took no cold medicines this time because in the past I would begin flaring when I came down with a cold and I attributed it to the cold medicines. My conclusion now is that the cold medicine is just a red herring. The cold seems to be kicking off the immune system to go into overdrive.

Now I'm just waiting patiently for my body to cut it out and return back to a blood free stool state, unfortunately my flare continues to get worse and worse. I continue to take 1200MG of Asacol three times a day but I suspect that it is about as effective as drinking water.
