That's S-O, not S-O-N, Quincy.
Hi kwaa,
Don't wean off of the meds. Lialda may not work for your s-o, but you should try other asa medications if that's the case.
Not familiar with the particular product you've been recommended, but many people with uc add a probiotic of some sort to their diet. At one time I did, but I didn't find that it did much for me. But I do eat a lot of yogurt; I was raised on the stuff, and I notice a difference if I skip a day.
Aloe vera also caused the runs when I took it.
There are a number of tricks to firm up the stool. You might try some fiber. (I eat a lot of oatmeal.) But, if your s-o's colon is inflamed, you might want to wait a touch. I've been bleeding for a year, so I wish I could tell you when that will stop.
I understand the impulse to want to try natural remedies, but I wouldn't let them replace conventional therapy, especially at first.
And, as quincy points out, frequently, well meaningly, you can always try rectal meds.
