I don't have Colitis apparently, what next?

After my latest bleeding episode I have been told I have an Ulcer and Small Piles - by leading Gastro in the UK - Prof Jay Arnold. He works with my Tatler Top 5 Gastro Mr Chopada. They both agreed that I have a rapid transit (IBS) so the blood colour is difficult to use as an indicator of where it is coming from.

In the last week I have had black stools and taken Flagyl and Anti Acids which have cleared it up. He also did a OGD, Flexi Sig, Barium MRI Scan with dye to check for Chrohns, Colitis, Cancer etc, he did blood work and stools tests every day (5 days in private hospital).

So what do I do? I am scared to come off the Asocol as suggested having seen what it has done to others?

Also he has taken a biopsy of the Ulcer and I am worried it might be something else, although he says it is 100% Ulcer.

I am not worried about the biopsy as he has confirmed it's an Ulcer and I doubt be would say that 100% without being certain of what one looks like.

I had another flexi sigmoidoscopy and he said there was no Coltis, and no UC. My previous Colitis didn't come up as IBD under a scope so maybe it was just infective?

I am so confused.

Just a word of caution. I had my first colonoscopy in 2001 because of cramping and some blood in stools. At that time I was found to have some mild inflammation in the rectum. IBD was not even mentioned and it was sort of shrugged off as no big deal. Because of that I let my symptoms get out of control without seeking medical attention. I ended up in the ER in April of 2002 with severe UC affecting the entire colon. I spent a good 10 days in the hosptial trying to get it under control and had a 3 year flare.

I don't mean to scare you. It is good news that you have no signs of UC, but please, please, please seek medical attention if any symptoms arise.

LondonRed....When will you get the biopsy report?

It sounds as though you might have what's called Solitary Ulcer Syndrome....but in saying that you do have patchy right side inflammation...wonder if you treat the ulcer with rectal meds...if the right side inflammation will go down.

The asacol will help deal with the right side inflammation.

Did the doc suggest you go off the Asacol?
