Oral Thrush Treatments and Gas pains in the Shoulder

Hi, My sister just had a total colectomy on 5/30/08.  Now she is having a really hard time with the thrush in her mouth/throat and gas pains that she is experiencing in her shoulder. 

I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who can help us with this.  I am looking for a remedy.... she is so miserable.  I need all the help I can get!

IDK about OTC treatment for thrush, but she could get a Rx for an antifungal pill. and gas pains in the shoulder? i'm not sure i understand... sorry i'm not much help.

Has she contacted/seen her doctor to make sure there's not something else going on?

The only help I can be with the thrush is contact her doctor.

As far as the gas pains in the shoulder, I had some but only a few days after surgery.  They were rectified with walking or just getting up and moving around.  I would also have your sister mention that to her doctor also especially if it has been going on since the surgery.  I would also look into her diet to see if she is possibly eating foods that cause gas.  Staying away from those for a time may help until her system gets adjusted to the surgery.   Here is one list, http://www.gicare.com/pated/edtgs13.htm go down to the part about things that cause excess swallowed air and food that form gas.  This may help but definately keep her doctor in the loop as soon as it is possible.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas and advice.  She is now back in the hospital again after her stomach started to be distended. 

Apparently she has either an ileus or an obstruction.  They drained her abdomen today and got over a gallon in fluid out.  She is feeling some relief from that thank god. 

As for her thrush, they brought over another gastroenterologist today to look at her mouth and throat to make sure that it isn't something other than thrush.  I just got off work so I don't know that the verdict is on that. 

The gas pain she is feeling in her shoulder is what they call "referred pain"... and she hasn't had any relief... but then again, she has been to weak to move around... hence the lack of relief.

Thanks again... If you have any other advice or insight into any more obstacles she may face, it would be appreciative.

Oh My!!! it's good you took her to the hospital.

The docs are thinking she has ileitis? Crohn's maybe? and a blockate in that area?

A throat swab would confirm if it's thrush...was she recently on prednisone or antibiotics?

Where the heck did they drain the fluid from exactly? Poor girl from all she's going through...

Please keep is informed as to how she's doing. I hope the doctors are able to get it figured out very quickly.

I hope they can give her some pain meds to ease the gas discomfort.
