My stomach has been hurting since 2 am last night (almost 12 hours). (This has been happening on and off since May) I've been doing some research online and have self-diagnosed myself with an ulcer. It seems to match my symptoms. Anyway, I've told my doc about my stomach pain about 5 times now. I just called again and told the secretary that I'm going to start taking zantac otc. (I checked interactions w/my other meds- it's ok) She said she'd talk to the doc and call back. I haven't taken it yet, but I feel like a pain in the butt always complaining to my new doc who I think is great, because she helped get my UC under control. I have an appt with her on the 22nd. I just can't bear to wait that long!

Anyway, do any of you have ulcers? I wonder if this is common for UCers. I think I also want someone to say that it's ok to bug the doc about this.

Do you just mean stomach ulcers, or ulcers in general?

I have had ulcers in my stomach, intestine, throat and mouth. I get mouth ulcers a lot and I've had one EGD where they found my esophagus was covered in little ulcers because of GERD. I'm starting to wonder if it is again because my throat has been sore for two weeks.
As for my stomach, I have gastritis which is just inflammation but I they did find a small ulcer once, but it went away. I don't know if I have any in there now. For awhile I was starting to think I had Crohn's since we're only supposed to get ulcers in our large intestine and I was/am getting them everywhere. Guess I'm just lucky, haha.

I think I have a duodenal ulcer, but I'm not a doctor and I'm using the internet as my diagnostic tool! I just know that my symptoms match.

I take Zantac before I go to bed to prevent reflux. I don't think there's any problem with your taking it, my doctors both approved it.

Thank you for your replies.

Well, my GI's office called back. I'd just taken the zantac. I told the secretary that i think I have an ulcer and she said that she can't say anything, but that's what she thought, too. THE GI ok'd the zantac. I was concerned, because of interactions with the rifampin I'm taking for a +ppd. But, it's ok so long as I don't take it within 1 hr of the rifampin. I just hope it helps!
