taking lialda during pregnancy

I am 18 weeks pregnant and have been taking Lialda the entire time so far. I recently learned that it contains Asprin. This is my third child. During both pregnancies before I took Asacol but continued to have flare-ups. This time I haven't had any flare-ups at all, but I'm worried that Lialda may not be safe for the baby. Has anyone else taken Lialda during pregnancy or have any advice? Thanks!

Lialda is Mesalamine, the same drug that's in Asacol. The only difference is that it's coated to time-release slowly so you don't have to take it as frequently. It's in the 5-ASA family of drugs along with Asacol, Pentasa and Colazal, but it doesn't contain aspirin. Asacol has been shown through long experience to be safe during pregnancy, so Lialda should be also.
