Salmonella, help

Hi everyone. My son has been very sick and we followed up w/ the doctor today, who said that the hospital "belived" that he has salmonella poisioning. He was put on sulfa antibiotics.

My worry is that i read that people with IBD were at higher risk....I have UC and have been caring (cleaning up throw up and D) for him, which means i obviously have come in contact w/ it....I washed my hands everytime and then some, but am worried.

Has anyone ever had salmonella poisioining? What signs should i look for???   TIA

Salmonella is spread through the oral route. Washing your hands is the single most important infection-control measure you can take. Also, make a habit of keeping your hands away from your face. I second the probiotics suggestion also. Be sure your son doesn't share cups, glasses or eating utensils with anyone. You didn't say how old he is; if he's a toddler, be sure to wash any toys you can daily with warm water and soap, then air dry.

I've had salmonella. There was nausea, vomiting and diarrhea as with other intestinal bugs. I also had fever and severe abdominal pain. I was young and in excellent health at the time, and recovered in about three days.
