I just wanted to say I finally got a second opinion from a doctor in St. Louis who is a professor also(which I thought was cool.) He was very nice and explained some things to me that I guess I wasn't understanding. He said that he would have put me on Remicade or Imunan back in January. He seems to favor Immuran because it has been around longer but my normal doctor seems to favor Remicade and I think I will go with the Remicade because it works faster.
I didn't realize that both only have a 60% success rate for UC. That scares me alot. I got down to 15mg pred and had problems so I went back up to 20 and am trying to taper. I just hope my doctor here will not want to do another scope. Also the second opinion doctor said that I have IBD and that can cause IBS and the way to treat the IBS is to get rid of the inflammation. He says that because I am normal with pred I proballly don't have IBS (or ever did) when I don't have IBD. This was new to me. I was told by my doctor that pred helps IBS also. But the new guy says that if you gave pred to someone with just IBS it wouldn't do anything. He says it doesn't matter if I have UC or Crohnes-colits and not to worry about it. He says crohns is harder to diagnose and next scope they might luck out and get a biopsy that shows crohns but even if they don't I could still have it and it not show up in the samples.
So all in all I feel better about my situation. I am just going to go with the flow and see if remicade will work. I got copies of my medical records. I guess my doctor did some tests that he didn't tell me about. I have been tested for C-diff and parasites and anything else I could think of that I wanted done.
