My joint pain is more of an ongoing ache.

For me its both. I've had sudden/short sharp, jabbing pain in my hands and also dull aches in my shoulders and knees that last for days.

My left-sided pain is violent, as if an alien was trying to rip through my colon. My other pains are usually rectal, intense burning and soreness. The joint pains feel like someone stabbing me in my knee, then it will go away and come back in another spot. UGH I hate being in pain!!

Thanks Princess and Pfit. It sounds like my joint pain is similiar. Either it is a quick stab then moves somewhere else, or it pulsates in one area, or just sits in one area--usually it is stabbing, pulsating quick then its gone to another area..sometimes quick "zaps" Is your joint pain associated with the colitis or from your arthritis?

I have been getting the pains alot in my ankles, feet and fingers. Also, my joints are cracking like crazy! No inflammation or redness though? Hmm

This joint pain has gone on for 7 wks now :(

I'm experiencing what princesscolon is going through right now and it's scaring me. Minus the joint pain. I do have lower back pain. Some days I feel like an alien is crawling through my intestines. Right now it burns and I feel cramping. Some days are good and some are bad. Each day brings something new and different. I just wait for that one good day where I can leave my home and go to the grocery store where I stock up like a bad winter storm is coming.

I went to have my hair done today and my hairdresser mentioned she had colitis. I am now covinced I have this. Her pain in her stomach is exactly where mine is, I told her if I lean back and stretch to the other side the dull pain dies down some, she does the same. In addition, her joint pain is like mine. In fact when she first had it she thought she broker her foot, then it was her wrist...she actually had xrays of both and then started to realize the pains were connected. She took has the "waves" in her nails. SO I am hoping I get this dx (just to KNOW what is going on). She said my joint pain wont be gone till my colitis is under control. She went two yrs straight with the pains.....

Is blood always associated with this? I do not have blood, also some days I am more consitpated and other days well...I just have to go all the time?

When I think back to how mine was discovered I remember my bathroom experiences. My trips were hard and painful. I even remember a dot of blood. I would always look at my tissue because that is what my mother had taught me growing up. To always know what it looked like and what color it was. It was only a dot of blood, but I knew that wasn't good so I made a doctor's appt. I was dismissed at first. The doctor thought that perhaps I just scratched too much, but that wasn't the case so I went back more insistent. She did a test on me and sure enough it showed signs of bleeding so it was then that a colonoscopy was scheduled. I was only 19 and very scared.

11 years later I'm still dealing with this, but there is much more blood.

Interesting how some people have the joint pain and others do not. What other symptoms do you all have with Colitis? If I do have it, the waves in my nail bed is new and also I sometimes get shooting pains in my eyes--use to think it was from past Lasik, but now I think its the colitis. It hits both eyes from time to time so I have not gone to see an eye dr. Also sometime my eyes are quite red, like I have allergies.

Is it wierd to sometimes have hard or somewhat regular BM and other times to have loose? Regardless, I get a side pain often when I go like a bad cramp (it moves from the constant dull to sharp) and have no blood.

A couple months before my first flare and being diagnosed I began to have severe foot pain. It would start as if my foot were "falling asleep." Eventually the entire foot and ankle were not-usable because of excrutiating pain!! When I was finally diagnosed the Gastro that I see said that inflamatory rocesses were quite common and that maybe my meds would also treat the arthritis complications. Well, the severe pains have susided mostly, some discomfort once in awhile with my feet.

My abdomen has been severely painful at times as well. I have been in a real good remission for about 1 & 1/2 years up until 2 months ago, now I am flaring intermittently. I have some ROWASA  enemas that I have never tried and am considering giving them a try. I have Pancolitis but at present most of my problems are sigmoid to rectal...(I think)...When I have been in a bad flare I have had the worse abdomen pain that I could imagine. Sometimes just walking would be painful. I used to drive a fork lift at work and every bump felt like I was getting a sword run through me.

The odd thing is I do not have redness or swelling in my joints that I can see, in fact...I had a bone scan and nothing showed. Wonder if this type of joint pain associated with colitis WOULD always show up?

Another ODD question---- does anyone's feet buzz from time to time? Mine has been and I hear this is often accompanied with auto immune disorders.
