OK, I just had a c-scopy yesterday (Tuesday) and it revealed no polyps or anything in the colon. However, my GI did find a bit of what she termed "redness in the rectum" and had that taken out and will have it biopsied. She didn't seem too concerned about it, but I was just curious if anyone else had this symptom with their UC? I don't have UC as is right now (a bit of GERD from time-to-time and maybe IBS) ... just nervous about the biopsy and looking for some info from others that might have been down a similar road.

I think most of us that have UC have "redness in the rectum". I had biopsies done on me in my first one, where they determined i had UC, but I'm not sure where they took them from. A lot of my UC was in the rectum and up, as a lot of UC people do experience. Was it a routine C-oscpy, if you don't mind me asking, or were you having any UC, or other symptoms that lead for her to want to take a look?

I had a little bit of blood in my stool (maybe like a tablespoon or less) and that seemed to clear up with taking more fiber (Citrucel). She mainly did the c-scopy to help me feel better because she could tell I was concerned about it ... but all along she hasn't thought it was anything more than constipation and maybe IBS. We'll see on either Friday or Tuesday (depending on when they get the biopsy back).

The medical term for the redness is "erythema",a congestion of the blood capillaries.It can be an indicator to the possibilty of Colitis,hence the biopsies in your case.This doesn't mean you have UC,but it's something they'll be looking for,remember I'm not a medical professional.I do know that my last rigid sigmoidoscopy showed some erythema,meaning I wasn't in complete remission at the time,although I felt fine.

Hopefully biopsies will help you to get a clearer diagnosis,at least if it is UC you can start to get some form of treatment.

Thanks for your insight ... what you said is basically what she said to me afterward; it may or may not be UC. She also said it might be red and I may be perfectly healthy. She says she deals with a lot of older patients and she just may not be used to seeing it being red!

What I really want is a clearer diagnosis ... I think I may have mild UC because after my first c-scope, my doctor at the time said the internal hemmoroids would come back periodically throughout my life (which they have) but it shouldn't be a big issue (which it hasn't been). I just hate waiting ... sucks!

Waiting is the hardest part usually. Hopefully it will be nothing. If it is UC, it is probably just in the rectum Ulcerative Proctitis, which isn't as progressed. Then you can at least be glad you caught it early to start some treatment. It was good to have the scope if you had blood. Good Luck.

Yeah my doctor said when she did the cscope that there were some internal hemmoroids ... anyone here have that in conjunction with UC?
