ive had 3 colonoscopies now and the prep is by far the worst.
in australia, they knock you out cold.
i would prefer it if they knocked you out BEFORE they wheeled you into the theatre with all the big equipment, lights and PEOPLE!
i wake up after all groggy, and yes, gassy.
the whole bloody room is gassy. its so funny. musical farts all around.

the 2nd colonoscopy i had though wasnt good. i had a reaction to the prep crap that you drink and gag on.
i puked through the whole thing and was so dehydrated they called got me into emergency room asap and put me on a drip to rehydrate me.
i looked and felt like death. dehydration is absolutely awful.
but the c-scope went fine (cuz i was knocked out).

they really do need to come up with a tastier way to clean out our guts.

I have had two sigmoids without sedation not fun wen they get to your intestine that is when it hurts. The colonoscopy I can't even remember but I was bloated for about a week afterwords. I did not know I could be put out for the sigmoid I will make sure I don't go through that again.

For both of mine I was out completely, didn't remember a thing. I had no trouble waking up afterwards. After my second c-scope, I had pretty bad gas pains later that night, but I could handle the pain. The sigmoidoscopy I had, on the other hand, was pretty atrocious. I was awake and it hurt super bad. It made my flare worse, too.

edie - I had one of my c-scopes in Iowa and they put me all the way out. Maybe it was just your doctor.

My first was when I was first diagnosed. For some reason I was awake.... Being a 20 year old guy, I had a real complex about the whole thing. The tube felt much larger than it was! I remember the pain well....the first sharp bend after your left side of your colon....that was intense... Oh and the doc wanted to have 2x HOT young interns observe....I politely declined...way too humiliating...

Since then I have had many.... Best part of it that I look forward to now is the Fentanyl - grrrrreat stuff - if I could get that in pill form on a regular basis my life would be complete..... I ask the nurses / anesthesiologists to dose me up a bit before putting me all the way out... Some are pretty cool about it, some arent... Nonetheless - I love that stuff!! Sad eh?

After my last scope things were hysterical! I wasin a ward type situation but not everyone there was in for the c scopes. I get out of mine and other's were waking up from their procedures and I had the WORST gas. I kept insisting that I HAD to get up and go into the bathroom I wasn't going to let it out in the big room with other people around.. Finally they gave in and let me go into the ward bathroom that was litterally straight across from the foot of my bed. I scramble in there and as expected everything was gas. . . I let it all go with a much relieved sigh. . . must have been about 2 minutes total I just kept letting it out in repetition. Feeling lots better and happy about being given the privacy to release it I make sure that the back of my gown is closed and with a comfortable gut and a relieved smile on my face open the door . .. . . to my husband in tears and red with laughter. I get back over to the bed and get settled in glaring at him the whole time to tell me what was so darned funny!!!! After composing himself he said .... " the bathroom echos" I wanted to DIE!!!!!!!!!!!

#1 - I was awake and kind of aware, I remember watching it on the little tv and then thinking eeew and going in and out of it.
