GI Prescribed VSL #3 today. Has it helped people?

Well I saw my GI today. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with UC and was in remision until last month. I have been flaring for a month and it seemed to get worse after a appendectomy 3 weeks ago. The good news my GI is taking me off the Prednisone his back up GI put me on in July. I am glad since I have not slept more than 3 hours a night since I started. It will take a few weeks to taper from 40 though 5mg a week. I mentioned to him that I had poor digestion recently and that I was trying to eat heathy to try to prevent it.

He wrote me a prescription for VSL #3 today. I hear many of you discuss it and that it is kind of expensive. I think I just have a 10 dollar co-pay so I am hoping that this can help my digestion. Have any of you had success with it? I was flushed with Antibiotics during my surgery 3 weeks ago so I am sure any good bacteria in my stomach was killed so I read this would be a good time to take it.

I was also prescribed a mesalamine enima since my colitus is in the lowest area of my colon. I am hoping this will make going to the bathroom less painfull. Has this worked for people as well. If there is no improvement it looks like another colonsocpy in 4 to 6 weeks.

YOu have to get the prescription for VSL#3DS for it to be covered by insurance. My GI prescribed it for me, but still waiting on our pharmacy to get it in. As for the enemas, they really do help me a lot. A lot less bleeding and only 2 bms in the morning when I take it. Hope it works for you too.
