is this normal after a c-scope??

It's good that you have a call into your GI - even if it's just to make your mind at ease but hopefully it's nothing too bad. On my last scope, I had bleeding from the biopsies for 3 days and D for 4 or 5 days after. I sometimes think that the preps can cause a flare. Are you on any probiotics? If not, you might want to start on them. They help restore the good bacteria that your intestines need to function properly. What about fiber supplements? Have you tried them yet?

Hope you are OK. I am getting ready for the scope tomorrow and just took the osmoprep. I am sitting here waiting for it to work. I have been having scopes for 25 years+ ........once a year every year because I have had UC since I was 15 way back in 1961.
Over the years I have done different preps....starting with the gallon of water mixed with powder to the FLEET crap. This is the first year I was given osmoprep to try. My rectal area is already sore from some recent constipation. Hope this works fast. Right now all I feel is BLOATED.

I plan on just sitting and waiting. At least feeling bloated takes away the desire to eat which of course I can't anyway.

Never taken Osmoprep, but I had a c-scope last Wednesday with the Fleet phosphosoda prep... After the scope, I passed nothing but gas and probably I would say at least half a cup of blood over the night (which was scary!). The next day I was sore, tired, bloated/gassy, maybe a little constipated. Ever since I've just had diarrhea, mucous, and blood. Today the stools were partially formed but I'm still having more blood now than I was before the scope, which sucks.

Not sure about the nausea, maybe the prep irritated your stomach? I hope you're starting to feel better now.

Well I had my scope. Overall everything went well and the doc felt everything looked good, no polyps and no changes visible. In two weeks I see him for the official results. But the osmoprep did me in. I did go and cleanse well but I felt all jumpy inside and unsettled. Never felt that way with the other preps. After the scope, I had trouble waking up. Unusual for me. My oxygen levels dropped low and they wouldn't let me go until they did. I have felt headachy and nauseated. This is unusual for me as normally I just wake up and want to go out to eat. I barely could keep awake to eat something and only now is the headache subsiding.
The nurse told me they had to give me extra narcotics because I woke up before he was done. I vaguely remember it. She also suggested next year they use an anathesiologists instead of the narcotic method...
But I feel better now. So far just gas and no UC problems. It always takes me a few days to get my colon functioning normally (for me). But no pain).

Anyone another year down and 384 days to go to the next one.

lemonhead...is this the first time using osmoprep? You might want to avoid it next time. The worst c-scope experience I had was with Fleet prep...ugh.

Just a thought considering you are on your meds.

yup, that was my first and last time with the osmoprep.  I am still not feeling back to normal.....and it has been 7 days.  I feel better than I did, but not back to normal.  So upsetting considering I was feeling fine before the prep, what I would consider remission, and now I am bleeding a little, gassy, bloated and genereally feeling yucky!!  I guess osmoprep is not for me...I think I will go back to the phosphosoda prep.

I wish I'd found this site before I used it for my first colonoscopy. If only I hadn't decided to use it. It cost $85 for 32 tablets (and that's ON my prescription plan!).

The day before the procedure I ate all my favorite foods (they were going to all be washed away anyway, right?) and fasted starting two nights before the C.

I followed the directions perfectly. I took the 20 tablets in 15 minute intervals with 8 oz/water for fifteen minute interevals, then when I'd taken the entire (first) 20 I drank 20 oz. of water.

The literature said the D should start "in about an hour." So I waited...

And waited...

And waited....

I started feeling horrible - headachy, jumpy and nauseous. I'd hear rumbling in my guts and feel pain, but when I went to the toilet nothing came out.

Not then, not EVER! What DID happen though was that I expelled the Mississippi River in water all night -- it was like the most powerful diuretic on earth, but NO POOPAGE. It only solidified whatever was in my colon and I had to drink water constantly.

I was jumpy and miserable and sick, and I didn't get to sleep until the sun came up. At 9:00 I called and cancelled the colonoscopy, and let my friend/driver off the hook. I sure wasn't about to take any more of that drug.

That was two days ago, and I still feel awful. I had to take a fleet enema and a lot of Milk and Magnesia to finally poop (on the advice of my doctor). but I'm weak and headachy and can't take NSAIDS

All that money, all that time, and all this misery for NOTHING. OsmoPrep is named in several suits as causing severe kidney damage so of course I'm imagining that my kidneys hurt.

I had no idea until I found this site that there were so many alternative ways of clearing the colon. I'm going to pay attention to every one I've read about when I try again in a few weeks (just thinking about it makes me sick now).

DON'T TAKE OSMOPREP! Don't risk what I'm going through!

Hi Sherry, thanks for your post. I wish I knew what I have -- that's part of what the test was supposed to be for.

I'm 63 now, and when I was in my late '20s I developed colitis due, I was told, to the profound stress I was under at that time with a demanding job and an abusive idiot for a boss. I couldn't bring myself to tell anyone, and I needed that job badly, so I stayed. I was so mortified at the bleeding and pain.

A couple of years later I left that job for another, much better situation, and the pain and bleeding went away almost immediately -- until years later when intense stress came into my life again.

I have severe arthritis which has been very hard on me this cold, snowy winter (I live in Yosemite in California) and with all the pain in my joints I've been taking too much Vicodin which constipates me. I take Milk of Magnesia for it every day, which I suppose is a bad idea but which works very well.

So maybe all this messed with my inner plumbing and is the reason OsmoPrep didn't work. But no kidding, I'm still feeling sick and awful from it, so no more of it for me! I just wish I could get that $85 back. Live and learn.
