Ok so I had a swollen tounge and rash a few months before this started

and now Im wondering if it was related.  i was out of town and woke up in the hotel room feeling really blah and I had this wierd tiny rash right on the right side of my upper chest there were like 5 tiny red bumps that were like little blisters. It kindof itched and I think Iwas running a fever but I was to busy with work to be able to stop and think about how i felt.  It went on for awhile so I went to the Dr and they said it was to late to culture the wierd spots and see what they were but 2 of the spots actually left a scar. For months afterwards I would have off and on swollen glands and my tounge would swell up and all of the sudden Id have bitten up the sides of my tounge. Also where your adams apple is ( do women have one ? ) or whatever that is would actually be so sore I couldnt touch it then it would go away and come back again finally after months it went away.  Now Im thinking this started soon after all that. Is it realted ? I never figured out what that was but I ran a fever off and on for months as well but not much of one.

no one has heard of this ? i just did a google search an apparenty a swollen tounge is and indication of inflamation I found a couple things linking it with colitis. Its very wierd.

periodically i'll have issues where my tongue seems to be too big for my mouth and i bite the sides of my mouth....i never associated it with UC though... i dunno.

Here is one comment I found.

If you see the impressions of the teeth along the sides of the tongue, this indicates poor intestinal absorption.

and

If the tongue has cracks or lines all over, it indicates chronic colon problems

If the tongue is too thick, it indicates an inflammatory condition.

Very interesting!

Some mornings I will wake up and my tounge is all sore - like it had been swollen and pressing on my teeth...

I usually attribute this to being low in a B vitamin - but that could be an old wives tale.

I had a strange rash a few years ago and didn't see a doctor about it. I mentioned it to my GI (the one at the time) and he read me the riot act about how I should have seen my GP, then strangely mentioned that he was going to forget I said anything about it. So, I learned a lesson - if something is wrong, see your doc. Now, maybe I should listen to that lesson more often!

Hmmm!  Where did you find the tongue information mom4321? 

Could you have had thrush or an oral yeast infection?  

If your adam's apple was sore, you might have had a thyroid connection.  The thyroid glands sit right below on each side of it.

I just googled swollen tounge and colitis.
I kept thinking I must be grttign my teeth or stressed out because Id have teeth marks all along my tounge and sometimes my cheeks I figured I bit it without knowing now I am thinking its a sign I should pay attention to .
I did tell them about it at my yearly exam and she ran test and thyroid was included but nothing showed up. As I say it came and went but I havent had any problem with it for quite awhile now so never conected the two till yesterday when I started reading things.

I mentioned thyroid because I have a thyroid cyst on my right side that no doctor noticed (I guess they just thought it was a big adam's apple?) but I found about 3 years ago.  It's definitely visible and can be felt.  Sometimes it aches a bit.

I've had it biopsied 3 - 4 times and it comes back non diagnostic (?!)  The only thing they say they can do with it is surgically remove the whole right thyroid, and since it hasn't changed, I haven't seen any point in that.     

Blood tests for my thyroid have always fallen in the "normal" range.

I often bite the sides of my tongue and the insides of my cheeks...it's a really bad habit. I'll catch myself doing it all the time. My tongue doesn't feel swollen though...but that is interesting info. you found. I have never heard that before.
